Good points. My statement implying pre-july models had trouble passing the test was based on the assumption that the strengthening of the cab mounts to the vehicel frame was in response to a test. It could have been in response to a number of factors: an IIHS test, a Ram test, engineering analysis, etc.
My apologies.
Be nice if Ram would chime in with a statement so we would not have to speculate.
I highly doubt there was an issue with the pre-July build trucks having issues passing the test. Have you seen a 2018 or older Ram crash tested compared to the 2019s? No comparison.
Ram went from bottom of the pile in regards to crash testing to the top. The redesigned C pillar cab mount will not have a huge impact on the crash test results - now the crash test bar in front of and behind the front tire will. Take a look at the 2015 F150 supercab vs super crew crash tests to see how impactful those crash bars make.
I have a 5/31 build and no concerns with the crash test. I spoke with IIHS, NHTSA and Ram in regards to crash test data or ETA on them and there were no plans to test the 2019s, as of late April. Knowing the design changes - I put faith in Ram having doing their due diligence while designing it. As we can all see, they did well - even beating out the 5 star rated F150. Coming from a 2016 F150 - I have no concerns with the Ram.
