A few weeks ago, I noticed a crack in my passenger side LED tailight. The surface of the lens is smooth which would suggest the crack was not caused by a rock or other object. Since this tailight cost $550, I'm going to bring this up when I drop it off at the dealer next week for a water leak I have on the passenger side rear roof and window. Has anyone else had a problem with cracked tailights? Did the dealer replace it or did they try to say it was caused by a impact and refused to replace it?

I don't have a visible crack, but I just noticed that my passenger taillight had condensation, so there must be a leak somewhere. It's a brand new truck so I will bring it up to the dealer on my first oil change.

I just had my truck in for service 2 days ago for this. My passenger tail light has been building up condensation for months and the water damaged the wiring harness causing my tail light to fail. the wiring harness was on back order and took 5 weeks to arrive. took Service 3 hours to complete. warrant covered everything. now looking at my driver side tail light i can see it is cracked but has yet to collect any condensation in it. I will be returning to the dealership on Monday to show them being I only have 300miles left on my warranty.

No harm in asking them. I doubt they’ll bite.
Look around for a used one on www.car-part.com rather than paying the ransom Ram wants.

If they refuse to cover it under warranty, I definitly will push the matter. If there was a sign that something actually struck the tail light, I would accept thier refusal. But since there's no type of damage on the tail light surface itself, it tells me it's some kind of defect. Tail lights on a year and a half old vehicle shouldn't just crack for no particular reason.

With only 300 miles left on the warrenty, I would be going over that truck with a fine tooth comb.

We didn't see any obvious signs of an impact either, but assumed something had to hit it. Replaced it myself and just ate the $550. 😒

There is a thread in the Exterior section of the forum where several people had their cracked tail lights replaced under warranty. Here's a link to that discussion...

But those looked much different than what you have. Yours looks more like something hit it, not a manufacturer's defect. A plastic lens won't always show surface damage when it's cracked like that. You can get a crack when the flat surface of something like a door makes impact, but you won't always see visible surface damage. You'll probably only have surface damage if whatever hits the lens is sharp. But like Boston said, it won't hurt to take it in and try.
