I have a 2025 Ram 1500 with High Output Hurricane. I was looking under the hood today and I looked at the coolant reservoir. I was wondering if anyone else with the H.O. Hurricane could look at their coolant reservoir to see if their coolant looks the same. I drove it yesterday, but not today, so it has been sitting for almost 24 hours. It almost looks like something is mixed with it, but it doesn't feel oily. I'm just wondering if I need to get this to the dealer.

Thanks

Others, more knowledgeable, will chime in.

Yes, take it to the dealer.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I wanted some other opinions. It should be straight purple and that's it. I was wondering if anyone else that had the H.O. would check theirs. Of course, if they have an issue, it would be the same as mine.

Thanks

Hmm, mine has looked like that almost since new.
2025 H/O limited with about 7000 mi.
Guess I'll call the dealer too???

Drain the coolant, see what comes out?

Usually, different fluids will settle into layers.
Are you sure it's the coolant and not just color swirls in the plastic containier?

Steve

You make a good point about the different fluids. I think I might use a turkey baster and suck all the coolant from the reservoir into a clear container.

Maybe the reservoir is not uniform and it shows a different color in some areas like you mentioned.

I drove it to work today because I was going to take it to the dealer, but I think I might go back home and do some science experiments. It is still driving fine, so I’ll see what I can find out. I’ll let everyone know what I find out.

Thanks

I used a turkey baster to siphon almost all the coolant out of the reservoir. I have attached a picture of the coolant reservoir when it was almost empty.

Here are a couple of pictures of the coolant that was taken out (bowl) and new coolant (measuring cup). The old coolant is a little discolored, but it has ran through the engine a while. There are 19,449 miles on the truck. I felt both coolants and they felt the same. There was no difference in the feel at all.

Here is the new coolant in the reservoir filled to the max line. The pattern is the same, so the coolant reservoir is not completely opaque.

I’m going to leave it alone. I don’t think there is an issue. It was just a little weird looking to me. I guess I have never really paid too much attention to the reservoir, just the level.

Thanks

It looks like that's an artifact in the plastic of the tank itself. In looking at the upper section with no coolant, you can see it has the same type of swirl marks.

Can you post a picture of your reservoir?

Mine look somewhat similar.
Called dealer, they said normal.
Read some comments I found online and they said OAT COOLANT can change color. Who knew...
