Console Valuable Lock Box Project

Good evening folks! I completed my lock box project this evening, good to prevent smash and grabs. It is screwed into the walls of the console and pops open with a code. I had to add the pull strap in there so I had something to pull to open it quickly and all the way. The boxes I found online were super expensive and mostly used a key, which I don't feel like fumbling with when I need inside the box. The top console still slides like it should. Thoughts?

Where did you get it?
It's just a Stackon pistol lock box from Academy. It happened to fit in there, so it was just a matter of drilling holes in the sides and then mounting it in the console. Also, there's a flap on the bottom of the console that raises up I believe to keep stuff from sliding around. The 2 plastic clips that hold that thing up had to come out to make room for the lid to open.

Very nice! Mine came with the mopar lock box already installed. If not I'd be looking to do something like you have. I think these are a must have.

I just got a pistol safe I bought from Walmart.com. Was so excited to get it since it has a code to get in and a key just in case. I checked the dimensions online before purchasing (also measured the truck, a Big Horn) and it was much cheaper than what others have used here, so I pulled the trigger on it. It fits in the top portion under the arm rest, cut won't fit all the way in the bottom, so bummed. The armrest will close completely, so back to the drawing board. Interested in this one so will have to check it out.

Man that's sucks, sorry that happened to you! Keep trying and keep your receipts to return them if they don't work. Keep me posted!

Any rough idea on how much clearance between top of safe and slider? Asking as those with Longhorn/Limited have deeper sliders that may not clear with this. And I'm interested.

Here are some pictures of the factory box. There is very little room between the slider and the top of the box.

I am going to add some foam to hold the items in place. It will hold two 1911's and spare mags

Looks like about 1.5" from the highest point on the lock box to the bottom of the slider...it might actually be a hair more, scope out the pic.

After the first console safe I bought didn’t fit like I wanted it to, I bought a second one. This one fits my Big Horn, for those looking for a lesser expensive option and have a Big Horn. Just have to figure out a way to permanently mount it. Less than 100 bucks and it’s worth it for me.

If you are seeking a secrete location with easy access to a firearm, try a GunSlingR. I have had one in every vehicle I have owned for years.

I just need a place to lock it up at work and some other places. Most the time one of them is hidden on me.
