Connecting phone to USB without auto connection Android Auto

Is there a way to plug in my Galaxy S9 to the USB and not trigger Android Auto? I want to be able to just charge my phone and use my Bluetooth and phone as normal, but have the ability to start Android Auto when I choose. I've turned off the auto connect within the app. If I turn off projection on the Uconnect system it doesn't auto connect, but I then have to choose an action for USB everytime I plug it in (like transfer files, charge only, etc). It's like Uconnect is forcing me to use Android Auto if I want to plug in my phone (unless I want to run a cord from the 12v outlet on the dash or use the 110 outlet)

Use one of the USB outlets not designated for AA. #4 on the back of the center console or the one in the center console.
