Cold air intake

Like I said, I believe data. Doesn't matter how many people say whether or not a particular intake design is restrictive or not, or how many people drop in and say there have been solid gains with brand x intake. I'm an engineer. When it comes to something like this, I trust the maths lol 🤷‍♂️

Lots of people showing gains on the track and Dragy with .1-.2 off the 1/4 and 1-1.5mph increase. Data seems to say the K&N works really well.
 
It’s easy to make claims. Coming in and posting about lots of people isn’t data, it’s just you saying it. I’ve only ever seen one post where someone’s claims are backed up with real numbers. But that was one run with an OTR style CAI and one run with the stock intake. That’s not definitive by any means, but at least there was verifiable data. I’m perfectly willing to admit I’m wrong if someone can provide real proof and not just people saying there were gains. Like I’ve said before, I’ve had plenty of cars and trucks with aftermarket intakes, and I’ve never see any real gains on any of them.
 
In the "Hurricane 3.0 TT" group there is plenty of proof showing time slips and Dragy data that back up the claims. Don't believe it you choose not to but the data and results have been shown and posted.

A modern engine- and especially a turbocharged direct injection one - has such a wide range of operating parameters that power output widely varies based on a multitude of things, including fuel quality/octane, intake air temperature, engine and transmission temperatures and much more. Timing and boost are constantly being fiddled with to hit an ever-changing load target determined by the stock tune.

Power levels can easily fluctuate +/- 20hp in a short span of time. This is why marginal claims like “adds 10 hp” or “shaves 0.1 seconds in the quarter” are dubious at best and an outright lie in most cases. It’s nearly impossible to control for exact parameters but it’s really easy to exploit them.

Yes there are theoretically restrictions in the stock intake. In fact a culvert would flow even more air than an aftermarket intake. But there is absolutely no point in serving up more air flow potential than the motor can demand or make use of, certainly not at the expense of filtration effectiveness. Fine grains making their way to the turbo is not great. Not worth the gamble in my mind.
