Has anyone had their windshield repaired? I had a small chip in mine, and called my insurance company, and they sent out someone to repair it. Well, 10 minutes into it, he said the chip started to spread and that it could NOT be repaired, it would have to be replaced. Now take it, the chip was about the size of a small pebble, no bigger than a dime. 20201009_143348.jpg20201009_143358.jpg20201009_143358.jpg20201009_143348.jpg20201009_143358.jpg

I am no expert, but I had safelight repair a chip in my silverado. The chip was smaller than yours though. If this is not who you had come out, call them they will give you a quote. My insurance paid it all. cant tell by the pictures, but it looks like it might be splitting, or is that the string below. If it is starting to spread a new windshield will be necessary.

On these new style windshields, they spread quickly. On my older vehicles, I've gone years without repair and they stay put.

However, on my 2015 F150, within hours one small crack less than 1/4 of an inch would spread to 10" overnight. Luckily I found a guy who was able to repair it. Exactly a year later, I got another one, again started off tiny, by the time the guy got to my house to fix it, it was over a foot long! Again, he fixed it.

I was lucky both cracks were on the right side of my truck, so I didn't have to change the windshield right away. I was waiting for one more big crack before I changed the screen, but ended up getting my Rebel before I had a chance to do that.

The split that you are seeing, is after he started to repair it. Before he started, it was just a small chip in the windshield. Unfortunately, State Farm will require me to pay my deductible $500 and then the replacement will be done.

Earlier this year after reading about all of the cracked windshields on here I contacted my insurance company (also State Farm) to discuss deductibles. I ended up going from a $500 deductible on comprehensive to $0 and the difference was only $3 a month. Just something for everyone to think about since it was cheaper than I was thinking.

Windshields are $50 deductible on mine, but then the camera and/or sensors have to be recalibrated.

Plenty of insurance companies replace your windshield at no cost. Safeco is mine and they do. It pays to shop insurance every couple of years anyway.

Lucky in SC as we are a windshield replacement no deductible state by law, and insurance companies do not raise your rates as a result of a windshield claim.

That said, no matter what the OP's deductible is or isn't, I strongly encourage them to get the windshield replaced asap.

I had a much smaller chip in my Grand Cherokee and decided to not bother with it as it wasn't getting bigger. Last fall I was driving from SC to AZ through the god forsaken lands around Guymon OK, when a sleet storm came upon me. The only way to keep the ice from sheeting my windshield was to blast the heat on the defroster to warm it up so that the ice would melt when hitting it. The temp difference outside to inside was too much for it and the whole thing suddenly cracked in three directions starting from the weakest point of the chip. Thankfully the glass stayed in place.

It's a bad break (no pun intended), but it really is best to swallow it and move on.

Thanks to everyone who has posted. I am definitely going to looking into changing the deductible, looking at other companies, and I'll be getting the windshield replaced on Monday. It just sucks that two weeks into owning this truck, the windshield is needing replaced. But it is what it is

Have a great weekend

Another reason to replace is that the windshield is an integrated part of the vehicles structural integrity.
