Hey gang. I've been posting for a while as I debate my next truck purchase. Well, I finally made my decision and picked up my new 2022 1500 Laramie last week! It's been interesting to consider options in this crazy market, but I'm happy I found a great deal despite the circumstances. My previous trucks were all Silverados (2009, 2017, 2020) and I loved them all. Never had a problem out of any of them. My 2020 RST was a particularly fun truck with the 6.2 V8 and 10 speed transmission. I still say it's the best powerstain on the market in a pickup. But I decided to get out of trucks for a bit while I considered some career decisions. Now that things are more stable, I'm happy to be back in a truck.
I went back and forth on trucks for a while trying to decide what I wanted. My family and I have been loyal GM buyers for years. I also have a Corvette in the garage I adore. I've ridden in a few new Fords and I already see my chiropractor enough - I don't need something to send me there more often. I waited for the refreshed 2022 GM trucks to be revealed before I made my decision and I'm glad I did. I like what they did with the refresh - particularly with the Sierra. The interior ia a huge improvement all around but the addition of a console shifter ultimately steered me away. I know it seems like a small thing to some, but I can't stand the idea of giving up that much interior space when it isn't necessary. I don't love electronic shifters overall but since the 5th gen Ram is in its fourth model year with no major issues, I knew the knob would be good. Plus, the financial incentive in buying a Ram far outweighs the competitors right now.
800 miles in and I love the Ram more every time I drive it. It's without a doubt the quietest and smoothest pickup I've ever driven. I decided to spoil myself a little bit and go with the Laramie this time. It's my first truck with leather, ventilated seats, auto high beams, etc. I traded in an Audi and this truck feels just as luxurious inside. It just makes you feel like king of the road. The 5.7 eTorque/8 speed, although not quite as good as GM's 6.2/10 speed, is a great and fun combo. Plenty of power! So far I've debadged most of the emblems except for the front RAM and rear ram head, and those have been converted to black. I had the Line-X sprayed today. After salt season is over I'll do rims, exhaust, and intake. I may get into suspension stuff eventually but we'll see. It drives so good right now I'd hate to mess with that. The only thing I'd do differently is the 3.92 rear end. I wish it was the 3.21 for fuel economy purposes but it probably doesn't make a huge difference in the end and I got too good a deal on this truck to pass it up.
Speaking of deals, I did really well on this truck. My original plan was to order a Hydro Blue truck because I just love the color. But watching everyone play Russian roulette in the ordering threads made me frustrated for them and I didn't even have a truck in the mix. When they pulled Hydro Blue from the options, I knew it was going to be much easier to just find something on the lot somewhere provided I could find a decent deal. Luckily, I did just that. I used to work in city government where I bought more than a few Charger PPV from a semi-local dealer to me. They always beat the state contract price so I figured they would have a good deal. It turns out they were having a black Friday deal and I was able to score an in-bound Billet Silver truck for nearly $8,000 off MSRP! That competes with or beats any of the quotes I received for ordering. I call that a huge win in this market and I love the color. Billet has a lot of character for a silver and it's so easy to keep looking fresh.
Here's a picture from the day after I brought it home, post ceramic coating. I've done some work to it since then so I'll update when I take better pictures. I'm excited to be part of the community!
