Cabin air filter soaking

After a hard rain or a car wash, I saw that the HVAC blower was not blowing air.
And it tripped off once or twice, with smoke from hot motor coming out the vents.
A few minutes later after a couple of turns, air flow came back.
After checking the cabin air filter, I saw that it was totally soaked with water.
Maybe drain holes are clogged?
Normal for rain to soak filter?
Anyone have a diagram of the inside of the air box, and location of drains?
Oh, and I removed the filter until resolved
Thanks in advance

Over 2 1/2 years on the forum and I can not recall this happening.

That should not be happening. Ever. Period. I hope you're still within the warranty period because that sounds like more than AC condensation not draining. I think you have a leak somewhere.

There are water drains, usually one on each side of the cowl under the windscreen. I would first suspect they are both clogged allowing water to overflow the inlet opening of the HVAC housing.

Thank you.
Any advise as to accessing those drain holes beneath the cowl vents?

P.S. Same thing happening to me.
I live on the shore, and subjected to wind-driven sand. Some days I can get several inches of sand buildup. When rinsing off, that sand goes somewhere, and I suspect it's clogging the drains.

I am not sure. On older vehicles I'm familiar with they are small holes that allow water to drain away on the inside of the fender. On DTs you might need to remove the cowl (windscreen) cover to see where they are.

I looked at the service manual but could not find a reference to a cowl drain.

Sorry.

Best regards,
Dusty

Bumping this - Just had an "A/C not working" issue.
Local mechanic said he'd never seen a cabin air filter so muddy/wet.
We had crazy rains on Monday, my issue happened yesterday.

I'm wondering what's happened.
I'm at nearly ~50,000 miles, I did replace the cabin air filter awhile back.

I just read a thread on here recently regarding this very issue. It turned out to be the tiny drain holes underneath the cowl that were clogged
