My truck didn't come with the "soft open" feature on the tailgate. It just drops hard. What you'll get shipped is NOT what is pictured on amazon. You will remove the drivers tail light and there are two nubs inside the bed wall that the shock just pops onto. 5 minute job. Must have.

I had this, tried as instructions detailed, id not clear. I returned to amazon, bought the mopar part from the Arizona Wholesale Mopar Parts as cheapest shipping too my CA residence.
It was about the same price, I never tried to install at the factory spot inside the left tail light, when I did the mopar part, it drops pretty fast for a "slow open", but the video from Ram does says 2 seconds.
Has anyone had slower drop with another shock/strut?

The one I ordered that fits the factory spot.... I'm pretty sure it's the same parent manufacturer as the mopar part. Opens slow enough to not slam but it's still quick.

Not saying you have to buy it from these guys, but the factory option would give you the same drop speed as trucks with it equipped and it's completely hidden behind the tail light. They also have a link for the instructions so you know what you're in for beforehand.

Ordered off Amazon. Easy installation. Gate does still drop fast but does not slam. Good mod, truck should have come with this.
