I am trying to connect an Escort 360C Max radar detector and it will not connect to the RAMs built in wifi. I can connect other devices to the hotspot but not the Escort. I called Escort and they said the detector will only work with 2.4GHz networks. Does anyone know if the RAM is a 5GHz or 2.4GHz network?

it is probably 4G. you most likely will not see any speeds above 1.7GHz.

you cant connect it to the truck wifi. I have the EXACT same radar as you and went through the same thing. Problem is the Ram wifi broadcasts only 5g and the detector can only be on a 2.4g network. Sucks I tried and tried. But I have a wifi through Verizon and t-mobile and I just use them in the truck as a back up.

Welp, Me too. Now I feel like an idiot for paying extra for wifi 360C radar detector specifically for this truck. Guess I'm sending it back.

W! T! F!?! Who the eff builds a wireless access point that doesn't support 2.4GHz?!? Thanks, FCA! Unbelievable!

Valid point. But, I would expect my access point to support (slightly) older devices that only have 2.4.

Sorry. Late to the party here. Did anyone actually get an FCA answer? Are the new built-in hotspots ONLY 5ghz? Seems a bit odd. Thank you in advance,
(been on the phone with most everyone UConnect etc for an hour and they don't even understand what bands are, let alone channels, frequency, etc)

5ghz is exactly what you want for short range wifi usage (ie, In-Cabin).

Yup. 5ghz is absolutely brilliant at shorter range or controlling propagation. However not all devices support it. Escort radar, some wifi dash cams, cheap tablets or older phones tables etc...
I'm updating this thread as after hours of reaching out... Formal answer. 2.4 not avail.

No need to place a 2.4 in a moving vehicle. The 5ghz keeps it nice and contained to the truck and of course, more and more devices are now 5ghz.
Also I'm sure they set it up mainly for mobile devices such as phones/tablets.

A radar company isn't necessarily going after 5ghz compatability as a top priority.

I wonder if you could install a wifi extender that takes in 5ghz and then retransmits in 2.4ghz

I have several of these in my house. I am using them in access point mode, but are extenders by default. There are cheaper and likely smaller versions of this, but I don't know that I have ever tried to use them to take a 5ghz signal and then extend as a 2.4ghz. https://www.linksys.com/us/p/RE7000??cb=

If one of you would consider putting one in your truck to solve this problem, I can take the time to validate that it is possible to extend 2.4 with only a 5ghz as a source signal.

the wireless channelspace for 2.4ghz is garbaged up with all kinds of conflicting uses. 5ghz is not so bad yet.

seriously, if you REALLY need it on 2.4, get a wireless repeater plug to take the 5ghz and rebroadcast as 2.4. they are cheap and will plug in with minimal setup through your 110VAC outlets.
