Dealer just bought back my second 2019 bighorn with black appearance package and upgraded me to a 2020 Laramie sport. I am wondering if its possible to either paint or buy black covers for the center of the taillight without interfering with the blind spot sensors? Lets hope this truck isn't a train wreck like the last 2. Here's the new truck. Love the added features of this truck!

Third time's the charm, right?
Hope this one is trouble free for you.

Cheers,

Yeah, I'd love to know if others have painted the sensor portion of the taillight. I think it would look great in the body color (Maximum Steel for me).

I believe retroshop has painted some. I know if you want them blacked out the blind spot still works because mine are.

So I’m guessing if I just tinted it that center portion was just wrapped black to look like the midnight edition that probably shouldn’t be an issue either. Had no clue there was a sensor inside there

If you want to know if the sensors will be affected by painting that section of the taillight, try covering over that section completely with masking tape and paper, then seeing if the sensors still work.

I went ahead and did mine with plastidip. Looks great and doesn't interfere with the sensors. Before I did them, I tested by putting a couple layers of blue masking tape, which also didn't affect them. They are radar sensors, so as long as nothing metallic is in the way you should be good.

So I had my regular led tail lights replaced with the OEM black models. My blind spot monitors no longer work. Dealership says there is a difference between the two and I have to replace with the red to make them work again. Something about not compatible with the dash module

Did you get non blind spot monitor tails? That’s the only reason I would think they wouldn’t work

That may not work as the tape/paper will not have the same density as the paint. Also, depends on how thick the paint is laid down. Went to a class on ADAS and they have have been having issues with these sensors that are mounted behind bumpers, etc. after they have been repainted incorrectly.
If you want to know if the sensors will be affected by painting that section of the taillight, try covering over that section completely with masking tape and paper, then seeing if the sensors still work.

How did you paint it does it come off? Or did you have to tape it off?
