Looking to purchase a 5th gen 1500 sport or Laramie.

Wondering what some high milers have experienced over the years from their 19-24 1500s. I’ve done some research and the majority says stay away from the 2019’s and go towards the latter as most of the bugs have been worked out. Also heard the 12” uconnect has some issues over time, I don’t mind the smaller uconnect if it’s more reliable. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

All the Uconnect sizes have their issues. Go big or go home. Lol. I'd say 2020 (what I have) or above would be good. I'd try to get at least UC5.

There are too many variables to say which years are the best. Knowing your engine preferences would help with answering this though. Since I want a V8 and am not a fan of etorque, if I were looking for a used 5th gen my vote would be 2020 thru 2022 hemi, since starting in '23 all 1500's with the Hemi only came with the etorque version. 2019's had quite a few recalls and seem to have the most problems. That's not to say I wouldn't get a 2019 if the right deal came along. Also know that 2019 and 2020 models with tow mirrors didn't get power folding mirrors or surround view cameras, if those features matter to you. There are lots of other small differences as well, which is why more information about what you're wanting would be helpful.

My 2021 is great !! I'm glad I have the 12" Uconnect 4 the 6 has some bugs I have heard love our truck

I feel like 2022 was peak DT.

Could get a non-eTorque Hemi with your choice of screen size, both with UC5.

Quality seems peak too, as rear window leak seems less common by then, same with other minor things.

Aesthetically it was also the last year for fender flares on Laramie as well as body color door handles and mirror caps on Rebels (L2) and Night Edition packages.

Don’t own one, these are simply my musings as someone who failed to order one in 22 thinking they’d get better.

Based on recalls, 2020 is the best year because it's the only model year not covered by the ABS recall. Lol. I may be biased owning a 2020 though. If you don't want e-torque, look at 22 or older Hemis. If you want the newer Uconnect5 UI, need to go 23 or newer.

I'm not sure Uconnect5 was an upgrade based on some of the complaints I've read lol. I've been very happy with the 12 inch screen and UC4 in our 2020 Limited. But then again I don't have a need for wireless CarPlay. 🤷‍♂️

About only "upgrade" it has is wireless android auto and csrplay

I had a 2019 which I loved but it had a lot of issues. Ended up trading for a 22 because it was the last year available without etorque and it also has uconnect 5 (wireless CarPlay). I have not had one issue with it (including UC5) covering ~ 43000 miles.

I've had a '19 Laramie with 8.4" screen and currently have a '19 Limited with the 12".

No major issues with either (regular Hemi here). Time will tell if I regret getting the air suspension, but it's garaged.

I'd say get the cleanest '19-'22 you can, including a clean Carfax with minimal service history (aside from regular maintenance).

19, 20, 21 do not have UC5 and E-torque are optional
Pre 22.5 have UC5 and ET optional
post 22.5 have UC5 and mandatory ET.

So i'd find one built within first half of 2022, with low idle engine hours, with regular maintenance history, no 4+" lift kit (4"+ require cutting frame), no puck/ spacer lift (those just show the owners are cheap), no cheap chinese LED lights (again, show that owners are not willing to spend), no big wheel/ rubber band tire combo

I like my 2020, built in 2019 before covid supply chain restrictions and everything going to :poop:💸. Also UC5 is a buggy mess, no problems with UC4

I have a 2023 with E torque and I wish I would have gotten a 2022 without E torque instead but the timing wasn't right.

Another thing to consider is in 22.5+ they removed the rear reclining, rear heated, and rear air conditioned seats and the 4 way lumbar adjust on the driver and passenger seat from the Laramie level B trucks in addition to making the E torque mandatory. In order to get the rear recline and 4 way lumbar you have to jump up to the limited or longhorn trim now. Also in 2022 you could pick the 5" or 12" screen with any choice of options. In 2023+ If you get the adaptive cruise control or higher level options it makes the 12" display mandatory.

Having gone through the build sheet in 2022 then again in 2023 I was disappointed that these features were removed.

I haven't had to repair anything related to my E torque unit however seeing the scarcity of parts for people who do have trouble is concerning if mine ever does need to be serviced.

Also I thought I would mention I have not had any real issues with UC5. Worst thing I've experienced is lag swapping between the bluetooth on my phone to the bluetooth of someone else who wants to play music. In that instance if you hold down the power button for 5 seconds it reboots the system and everything works flawlessly after that.

My 21 has been fabulous but it’s very base modelish for a big horn so a lot of the normal issues (rear window leak/informant glitches) it’s exempt from.

To date, I’ve had to replace warped rotors (I tow a lot) and warranty covered the replacement of both leaking CV shafts at 60k. Only other repair was a broken driver side sun visor mount (common failure).

Tailgate adjustment recall (done) and ABS module recall (not completed yet).

My 2019 was actually pretty good once the issues were fixed under warranty. Power Folding Mirrors both broke, fueling issue, and the cracked rear window frame.

When I was looking, my main criteria was 3.92 gears, non e-torq, and no 12" screen. I found two 2021 trucks that had less than 15,000 miles on them. One did have the 12" and I think it had a 33 gallon fuel tank. The one I chose was dealer owned and only has a 26 gallon tank andthe8.4" screen. I've owned it 2 years now, and it's been a very reliable truck.
