Looking to purchase a 5th gen 1500 sport or Laramie.

Wondering what some high milers have experienced over the years from their 19-24 1500s. I’ve done some research and the majority says stay away from the 2019’s and go towards the latter as most of the bugs have been worked out. Also heard the 12” uconnect has some issues over time, I don’t mind the smaller uconnect if it’s more reliable. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

All the Uconnect sizes have their issues. Go big or go home. Lol. I'd say 2020 (what I have) or above would be good. I'd try to get at least UC5.

There are too many variables to say which years are the best. Knowing your engine preferences would help with answering this though. Since I want a V8 and am not a fan of etorque, if I were looking for a used 5th gen my vote would be 2020 thru 2022 hemi, since starting in '23 all 1500's with the Hemi only came with the etorque version. 2019's had quite a few recalls and seem to have the most problems. That's not to say I wouldn't get a 2019 if the right deal came along. Also know that 2019 and 2020 models with tow mirrors didn't get power folding mirrors or surround view cameras, if those features matter to you. There are lots of other small differences as well, which is why more information about what you're wanting would be helpful.

My 2021 is great !! I'm glad I have the 12" Uconnect 4 the 6 has some bugs I have heard love our truck

I feel like 2022 was peak DT.

Could get a non-eTorque Hemi with your choice of screen size, both with UC5.

Quality seems peak too, as rear window leak seems less common by then, same with other minor things.

Aesthetically it was also the last year for fender flares on Laramie as well as body color door handles and mirror caps on Rebels (L2) and Night Edition packages.

Don’t own one, these are simply my musings as someone who failed to order one in 22 thinking they’d get better.

Based on recalls, 2020 is the best year because it's the only model year not covered by the ABS recall. Lol. I may be biased owning a 2020 though. If you don't want e-torque, look at 22 or older Hemis. If you want the newer Uconnect5 UI, need to go 23 or newer.

I'm not sure Uconnect5 was an upgrade based on some of the complaints I've read lol. I've been very happy with the 12 inch screen and UC4 in our 2020 Limited. But then again I don't have a need for wireless CarPlay. 🤷‍♂️

About only "upgrade" it has is wireless android auto and csrplay

I had a 2019 which I loved but it had a lot of issues. Ended up trading for a 22 because it was the last year available without etorque and it also has uconnect 5 (wireless CarPlay). I have not had one issue with it (including UC5) covering ~ 43000 miles.

I've had a '19 Laramie with 8.4" screen and currently have a '19 Limited with the 12".

No major issues with either (regular Hemi here). Time will tell if I regret getting the air suspension, but it's garaged.

I'd say get the cleanest '19-'22 you can, including a clean Carfax with minimal service history (aside from regular maintenance).
