Best place to find private party sale on used Ram?

Have been reading threads on people being offered 50% of MSRP when selling one-year old Rams. Certainly, a brand new Ram is 20% off, but still, 50% depreciation (even given the original 20% discount) in one year seems extreme. On the other hand, when I search for used 1 year old Rams, the price is basically the same as a new one.

What is the best way to find a used private party Ram for sale? For example, if a new Ram 1500 is 20% off MSRP, and someone would sell me a used 1 year old Ram for 35% off MSRP, then we both win: I save 15% more than buying new, and the seller gets 15% more than he would from the dealer.

Do you have access to Auto Trader in your area? People in my family have used it for just that purpose.

Seems strange to me. Back in October, I got $34.5k trade-in for my 2017 Rebel, which had an MSRP of $54k when I bought it. I paid 80% of MSRP at the time. I'm not a math wizard, but I got 64% of MSRP when I traded it in. And that was after owning it for almost two and a half years. Not sure where you're reading this, but it doesn't sound accurate to me.

I think a good part of it is due to the recent coronavirus. In the "prices paid" thread, people are reporting crazy low trade in values.

One of my son's is currently looking for a used Ram. The prime candidate at the moment is a 2017 loaded Laramie Crew Cab with 47K miles, , 4x4, , two-tone, everything but a plano roof. As far as I can tell this vehicle had a MSRP around $43K. They're asking $34K at a Chevy dealership.

After looking at dozens of local ads and Auto Trader, this one is actually a good deal.

A loaded Laramie CC in 2017 would have had an MSRP more in the range of $55 k and up. I know because I was shopping for a 2017 at that time. $43 would have been more in decently equipped Big Horn price range.

Okay. Your probably closer than my estimate. In 2014 My Big Horn had a MSRP of $41323. I didn't think the Laramies were that much more in 2017.

When I traded my 2016 Rebel in on the 2019 they gave me $35,500 and I paid $44,000 almost 4 years ago . I traded in November 2019 .

That's very close to the deal I got on my 2017 Rebel. I got $34.5k for the trade, and paid $43k when I bought it new. But the discussion was about percentage of MSRP, not what we actually paid.

You would think that these dealers offering stupid low trade-in prices have it all wrong. If it is about this virus, people aren't going to want to pay for a new vehicle and may look for a newer Gen trade-in. As long as people aren't silly enough to accept a dealer 50% trade on a 1-2 year truck, I'd imagine this tide will turn. Maybe they are looking for some stupid people to turn their books quickly, because the car sale industry has to be hurting right now, unfortunately.

You can find better deals. My nephew purchased a 2017 Loaded Laramie last year used with half those miles and they were asking $34,900 for it.

He bought it outright. This vehicle had been on the dealer's lot for 10 weeks, and since the dealer stated sales were almost nil, I think he was anxious to make a sale. Of the five used Rams he had on the lot, this one was the only one that was a an actual trade. The others were auction vehicles.
