I don't usually make them myself. I have made them a few times, but usually at home I take my bourbon without any fuss. Neat or ice is usually all I need to decide on. Occasionally an Old Fashioned, a Manhattan, maybe an overproof bourbon with a splash or two of cider in the fall by the outside fireplace. That is usually the extent of my range at home. I normally leave making the Smashes up to the bartender at our brunch spot. They also make a great Brown Derby

There are many variations of Blackberry Smashes all over the internet. They can use honey, simple syrup, or sugar. I use demera sugar cubes because that is what I have on hand for Old Fashioneds. I also use much less or even no mint then most of the recipes. To me, a little mint goes a long way. (not a fan of mint juleps either) The drink also need a little bit of fizz. It can come from either Ginger beer, Ginger Ale, Club Soda, or 7up. I usually use Gingle Ale.
Below is a link to a recipe. But like I said, you can find many online and then spend an afternoon perfecting your own variation.

Trying a new local micro-brew

I’m in California for a few days and stopped into the BJs Restaurant and ordered their 23rd Annual Cru. This is a great beer! I haven’t had any of the other Annual Cru’s, but the 23rd has an ABV of 10% and tastes really good.

I’m in San Diego now, and went to the local brewery and had their “Abnormal” hefeweizen. 5.3% ABV

Haven’t brewed since I moved about 9 years ago.
Looking to get back into it when my basement is ready.
I’m a very plain drinker.
Coors or Michelob Ultra.
I do like the beer they have at Steam Whistle Brewery in Toronto but haven’t been there in a while and don’t remember the names of what I drank.

I know it’s only a beer forum but I also like the occasional Vodka and Dr Pepper.

Last Saturday we went to eat at Sedona Taphouse, which is great food and lots of beer, both on tap and in bottles.

First is St. Bernadus Abt 12. I forgot to take a picture BEFORE I started drinking it.


Next beer was St. Bernadus Triple. Both beers were great - but dang expensive.

Finished with this, actually very smooth for 17%.

I am in Kraków, Poland, and had a Polish wheat beer, which was very good. Just don’t ask me to pronounce the name.
