Went to start my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and it was totally dead, nada, zip, nothing. Went to trickle charge battery and it showed reverse polarity despite having it connected correctly, tried reverse polarity and received the same message. Note: this was the old style lead acid where you can monitor and add distilled water, all cells with proper level.
Good news: It was under 2 year replacement and received a new battery with the balance of the warranty for 5 months.
Sad news: It was a Deka battery that I bought because it was supposed to be made in USA but do to covid I received a battery made in Turkey, NOT happy.
Good news: I got a USA made replacement.
I hope this battery holds up as a 4 year foreign made battery from Walmart has a 4 yr replacement (at least the last time I researched battery replacement) at a lower price point.
Battery Myth | Can a Battery ‘Reverse’ its Polarity?
Guilty As Charged Blog Post touching on the battery myth of reverse polarity. Can a battery, after installation, reverse its own polarity? Not by itself, but with external stimulus, it is possible.
