Hey people, I installed my gator efx tonneau cover today and I think it came out nice! If you don’t want to pay upwards of 1k for a bakflip name brand I suggest you try this gator efx. Its basically the same thing but was literally half the price! Biggest difference is it’s two fold and it doesn’t fold onto the cab but there are four star hand nuts that turn easily and the whole thing can be removed. Realtruck has it for $599 now but I was able to sweet talk then down to $512 with a 10% coupon maybe you can do the same!

That is a HUGE difference, depending on how one wants to use their truck bed and ease of that use. Not saying the Gator is not a good cover, but in the end it is not a direct comparison to the Bakflip. I do not own one yet but for my needs it is probably what I will get because I want to be able to use the whole bed at a moments notice without having to take the cover off.

BTW, nice looking truck!

Ty sir! Yes I love limited Ram. Now hear me out my friend. I had the bakflip on my last truck and while it is nice to flip it one more time and have ALMOST all of the bed space with just a flip , if I can save $500 bucks and get the same quality and all I have to do is unscrew four things with my hand and then I have full access to the bed it’s a no brainer for me.

Can you takes some pictures of what needs to be unscrewed to take the cover off. I'm looking at the Lomax cover for how easy it is to take off, but if this is nearly as simple I might get this one.

BAKflip is junk in my opinion. Had two of them on my previous trucks. Finish comes off after a year or two, the clips that hold the support rods break easily and the cover rests on the back of your cab when in the up position.

I agree back flip is bad. Had one on my eco diesel and the firs time it snowed in pa. It broke the middle latch. Before I spent a grand on another one I would buy a diamond back. If you don’t mind waiting 6 weeks for one. That said I got the same one as the OP

Thanks OP for posting the pics and your initial review. Shopping for a cover for my truck & the Gator EFX is going on the short list.

Have you had a chance to test how water tight it is? And can the truck tailgate be opened/closed w/ the cover latched?

thanks.

I have had it a few weeks and I think this is a great alternative to the more expensive back flip. I can confirm there are no water leaks and we have had plenty of rain and I’ve ran it through the car wash as well many times. It looks good and also functions well. I had the trifold bakflip on my last truck so I must admit I miss the ease of flipping it three times but for $500 price difference I can live with it. That’s it’s only drawback in my eyes.

Thanks for the feedback.

How about tailgate - can you open/close the tailgate w/ the cover closed/latched?

I had a fairly lengthy chat w/ a rep at RealTrucks yesterday & she answered a few questions I had on this cover. She indicated the cover wears about 70lbs - would you say that's about right? Still manageable IMHO; I think I'd rather sacrifice weight for more security of this cover over a soft tri-fold.

Last question - the middle and panel toward the tailgate both have latches - correct?

Thanks again!

Doubt it’s 70 pounds. I picked it up with ease. Yes both sections have latched. Takes me less than one minute to remove the top all together. Great top for 600 or less dollars

Mind you it’s not a diamond back. But a very nice lid

No problem using the remote or doing the tailgate normal I think it’s extremely light compared to my bakflip but still seems plenty Heavy so not to feel cheap yes both middle and end panel have latches then if you need the whole bed four hand tightened star screws hold it on.

Its all about your budget. I have the MX4 Rambox. If they made this for a Rambox, it would certainly work for me. Its a great price and in two~three years something better than the MX4 will be available to consider.

Just ordered the EFX. Will post once installed. Looked at all the hard covers. Didn’t want one that sits on top of the rails. For the loot this seems like the best option out there.

Hi, 2020 Built to Serve Ram, I have had for 5 days. Love the truck! Been looking at bed covers and wow! there are a ton of choices. Glad I saw oncehadadakota's msg! I chatted with Ashley and got a smokin deal on a efx of $520. I ended up going with the FX3 for $679. I felt for my needs the extra flip was worth it.

Yeah, it has been great, had 4 days of rain and everything was dry, just wet from opening the tailgate. 20200917_184418.jpg 20200917_184418.jpg

Looks great. I’m sold. I have the same color BTS. I did remove the Flag decals on the bed. Just not a fan of stickers/decals on any vehicle
