Today I attempted to install a B&M Hi-Tek Transmission pan on my 2020 5.7 5th Gen and it did not fit. Project was going well, thankfully for youtube I had watched a bunch of videos so I knew what I was getting into. Got the old pan off easily, Cleaned the gasket mating surface, Installed the filter and filter extension, then slid new pan up and the sump for the extra 4 quart capacity hit on the exhaust crossover tube. When I first held it up it wasn't even close to bolting up... I marked where it was close and got the BFH out and flattened the exhaust pipe some. After doing that I could get a half hole off but the exhaust would have been rubbing on the pan bad. I called B&M (holley) and spoke to someone who has never seen the pan before and read the instruction manual online and told me what I already knew... other than that he didnt really have much to offer help wise. Asked if my transmission and motor mounts were bad (at 60k I assume they aren't) At the end I had to give in and install my old pan back onto the truck with new fluid. It was my only option to get back home from work LOL. I figure I would make a post so if someone else was looking into the pan.. It was a really nice piece, just don't know why it wouldn't fit my truck??? The only video I found online of this specific pan being installed was a hellcat swapped Ram with longtubes so the crossover pipe was not an issue. His install was super easy!! HAHA. I have larger photos of my failed install, Just waiting for them to come through my email

Stock Picture on their website shows lots of room...

Thats a bummer and probably one reason you never hear anybody saying they went with the B&M pan > PPE but somebody had to try it out so we thank you.

PPE pan ftw, tried and true

What is wrong with the original pan? The 8hp70 is one of the best, if not the best, transmissions in the world.

The filter is not serviceable. You need to swap pans to replace the transmission filter. It is permanently attached to the pan.

thank you! i was talking about doing this yesterday you have saved me alot of time and money....

The main reason I tried to go with a aftermarket pan was the replaceable filter. Everytime you do the OEM one you have to toss the whole assembly in the garbage. With this pan the extra 4 quart capacity of oil was also nice for towing my travel trailer. I build racecar engines for a living and have learned a bigger sump and more oil capacity never ever hurts LOL. I am not sure if my 2020 was slightly different than their test mule that used to test the pan. Other than the fit I would give that pan a 10/10, very nicely made, stainless hardware, the cork gasket wasn't my #1 choice but we also use cork valve cover gaskets on most of our race engines haha. I made this hoping to save someone else the aggravation that I went through

I have read numerous posts that talk about the PPE aftermarket pan. I think they have 2 versions the std pan and a deeper pan. What is your thought process on that prospect?
I will shortly be reaching 60k on my truck so it will be time to do the maintenance on the trans/trans/diffs on the truck to keep problems at bay. Looking forward to your potential solution to your problem(s) so that we can learn from your practical and skills knowledge.

I have looked into that pan also, It seems like a nice alternative. The way the sump on the B&M pan contours the exhaust crossover on my truck room is very limited, this one definitely looks to be better. They have installed pictures on their website and it looks like they have plenty of clearance with their design. Ive read up on it and I seen a few people complaining about it not coming with a gasket and them wanting you to reuse the oem pan gasket. I think most have has success with that pan and a new Mopar 68172556AA ZF 8 Speed Automatic Transmission Pan Gasket. I think I will be giving that pan a try next!!!

I'd rather reuse the factory gasket than use a cork gasket like shown in the pics of the B&M pan.

Looking at the pictures from B&M, compted to your install pictures, it look like the exhaustion the truck they used sits slot closer to the cross member, where as yours sits further away. Would be interesting to know what truck they used for test fit

I agree about the cork gasket, I was not a fan of that at all. Its 2025 o-ring the pan LOL. While attempting my install when I was on the phone with someone at holley (B&M) i explained to them that the band in the center of the catalytic converter in the picture they show looked larger than the one on my truck. I told them that if it helped I would provide them with any measurement they needed. They took my name and number but I have yet to hear from anyone.

The part circled in red looks much larger, If that were the case and the cat was longer it would move the exhaust crossover farther away from the sump in the pan and provide adequate clearance

This is a closeup of the catalytic converter on the B&M truck, I wish I could go outside and take a picture of mine... its currently 27 degrees and we got 8" of fresh snow last night haha

I can go look at mine in my heated garage. Once the show I watching it over will run out there

Upon further review my 2020 has different cats than what was on the truck that they used. I guess going forward if you are interested in this pan you have to verify if you have the longer cat like in their picture or the shorter one like my truck has. I feel slightly better now knowing why it wouldn't fit my truck

Really makes you wonder what truck they used. To change the length of the cats would change other parts of the exhaust.

I know right? Looking at the PPE pan it looks like the test truck they used has the same style cats as my truck. Would be interesting to see what your truck has and what other members trucks have on them. I sent a inquiry to B&M explaining my findings... Hopefully they contact me and I can show them pictures so they can figure out what they have going on

Here is mine, I have the SkeerdyKat skid plate/cat guard so harder to get a good picture. Likes like mines the extra band in it.

Hmm, It looks like your truck has the larger cats on it. Both 2020's one with small cats and one with large. Riddle me that batman LOL

Right I understand. But if you have priced one of these transmissions then you would know that the better approach is to buy the original part from Mopar and not screw around with an aftermarket to save money. I am not sure why servicing transmissions has become such a saga, so I sympathize with the reactions to the cost of servicing, but at the same time the cost of these units, which are not rebuildable at the dealer level, are eye opening. So if you choose to service the transmission (I will do so as well) bite the bullet and get the original set up.
