Are Nitto Terra Grappler G2’s worth the extra money?

I’m about to place my order for new wheels and tires. I’ve had the Toyo’s before and they’re great tires but I’m thinking an all terrain may fit better for the truck. There’s a $550 difference between the Toyo’s and Nitto Terra Grappler G2’s. Is it worth it? Almost all my driving will be street and highway. I have a Wrangler Unlimited for offroad stuff.

Hello if what you’re saying is the reality of you going off road with this is slim, then stick with the Toyo tires. :)
 
Look at the cooper 4s tires. Less than 2 bills per tire. Look great on the truck. Great warranty. Quiet ride. Great in the snow.
I have had the A/T 4s. For a while. Will never get anything else

From what I gathered on this forum, the Nitto Terra Grappler G2's have a lot of road noise and may not be optimal for your situation of street and highway driving.

Correct me if I am wrong, but can't you reuse your stock tire pressure monitor sensors? Could save you $179 if you can get the shop to take them out of your factory tires and place in your new ones.

If you're wanting the all terrain look that ride smooth, check out the Nitto Ridge Grappler or Hankook Dynapro AT2. Seem to be well liked here and both are available in 305/45R22.

Thanks for the heads up on the Hankook AT2's. I just checked them out and like what I've read so far. They're also available locally for $250 a tire, $100 less than the Nitto Terra Grappler G2's.
 
I"m looking at a very similar setup to yours.
I'm between the G2's, Hankooks (Consumer Reports tire of 2016), and Nexen Roadian (cheapest out of the bunch @ $800)

$179 is expensive for sensors, you can probably have your tire shop include the swap for a minimal fee or in some cases $20 a tire.

Also check out bbwheelsonline.com, they beat custom offset prices and I didn't even bother calling.
 
I just bought 4 OEM sensors on eBay for 70 bucks. PM me if you want the info.

As for the tires, this an apples to orange comparison really. It’s a street tire vs off-road AT. Judging by the context of your post, they probably are too aggressive as others said.
 
I have the 305/12.5/22 Nitto G2 seem to ride great, sound great and love the look. no lift no air or ORP.. minimal rub full lock left on front plastic wheel liner.

My experience with G2s is that they seem quiet and smooth when they are new, but after about 10,000 miles they change. I had them on a Wrangler Unlimited for a while and the more miles they got; the more uncomfortable they became. It almost seemed like they hardened with age and miles. Based upon my personal experience with G2s I would not purchase them again. The tread will last forever; but the hardening of the tire structure was my concern.
I would like to get Hankook Dynapro AT2s; but they are not made in the size that I desire. I have decided that I'm going to get the Continental Terrain Contact A/T LT285/60R20 after I put a few more miles on my stock tires. I have read tons of reviews and it seems the Continentals fit my needs well. I want a quiet and comfortable AT tire that has enough for light off-road use...these seem to fit. It looks like the Continentals come in 285/45R22; I didn't see 305's.
 
I'm running TG - G2's on my 2014 Grand Cherokee...totally different tire size, vehicle, etc...I know. I love them for that car. Over 55k and still a good amount of tread depth left. Never did get noisy, never out of balance, never wore funny. Great traction in all conditions...including snow. When these are completely worn out...I'll buy another set. They were priced well, too.

I ran Continentals on my 4th Gen and loved them. Excellent tire.

Not sure where you gather that data. The G2s are known as one of the quietest A/Ts. I’ve had them in two different trucks and couldn’t notice any sound over stock.

Appreciate the advice on the TPMS. Curious if what a shop would charge to do that. I’m looking to buy my wheels form custom offsets but don’t want to spend almost $200 for new sensors.
 
Folks, I’ve posted this several times on here, but I’ll do it again. You can get OEM sensors on eBay for ~70 bucks.
