I have 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie Sport . I bought it pre-own certified with 48k miles warranty
I have face the notorious apple car play issue which reported by many others.
It would work for a few days and it would stop . It would be flickering connecting disconnecting . We have gone through technical support , firm ware / software upgrade … etc
I finally use my knowledge as a Gas Turbine control / instruments / electrical to troubleshoot the problem
1st - the usb cable to connect with your mobile phone could be an issue. The original cable vs the original 2 meters vs the after market cable
2nd - usb module has poor quality contacts . I found rusty terminals inside when take a close up photo . In the hot and cold weather , with AC running then shut off in the heat , water condensation ( both Usb modules port, usb cable)
3rd - i disassemble the entire radio console to inspect the interconnecting cable between the console and usb hub, the connectors . With the truck vibration , rough riding , the plastic connector could be slight loose over time, not making good contact at both radio ends, usb hub end . One time nothing work after my 1st n 2nd check , cleans, this 3rd solution solved all problem
4th - the Iphone uconnect app selection customize list. Start remove everything and only remain google map, phone call. It resolve my problem at one occasion
5th - the usb module could be loose and with the thickness of the mounting wall, the cable are not making good contact and reach all the way inside the hub. I think they will retrofit it with open hole and side mounting screw to bring the usb surface forward
6th - mysterious without proof is the Sirius XM subscription. Mine was expired. My carplay also not working. After i called them and complain, they lead me to renew over a good deal for 3 months with XM radio ( turn in channel 1 ) suddenly it works
These are my 6 steps of deep troubleshooting and finding i think it will fix ur carplay issue.
Side note: Mopar might have done good job on some systems, parts, but definitely i found the carplay, usb hub related parts, connectors on 4.0 and 5.0 are not a good design, not proven to be stable , they should add threaded in plugs …
i hope it helps
