Re: Fuel Sledge Wheels-18x9 0 offset; Nitto Ridge Grapplers-275/70R18
How do you like the Nitto Ridge Grapplers? Which other tires consider? How is the street and highway noise? They were introduced last year as the latest technology hybrid M/T-A/T. How do they compare to other tires you have used? What other brands (e.g. BFG KO2, General ATx, Falken Wildpeak A/TW (real, not OEM), Nitto Terra Grappler G2) did you consider?
Your wheels move the tire 19mm, about 3/4 of an inch, further outboard. The 22" wheels come with 285mm section with tires, which would be 3/8" further out anyway. It is hard to see from the pictures, do the tires fit in the wheel well? I think the wheels are available with the 0 and with a 20mm offset. Why did you choose the 0 over the 20mm?
A lot of questions...but a good looking truck with a great tire selection...
Thanks,
David
Thanks, brother! The Nitto Ridges are great tires. When I was working it out with the dealership I told them I was open to any tire, so he could have pretty much sold me anything. I let him know that I wanted to do some overlanding and use as a daily driver, too. He immediately recommended these Nittos at this size, although I REALLY wanted 34s/35s. I wanted to really fill the wheel well, and with the 18s, get some decent sidewall. He said since I have the air suspension, he only recommended the 275/70s to ensure I had enough travel and clearance at all levels. I also didn't want to cut or trim any plastics. I know others here have put bigger tires on, but I erred on the side of caution.
He also said he had never heard anything negative about them. Nittos were 1 of the 3 tires I was heavily considering, along with Toyos and KO2s, so his recommendation, along with many others here, made my tire choice pretty easy.
I think they ride terifficly. I don't notice any road noise, but to be fair, I had these put on before taking delivery, so I dont know the difference between the Nittos and the Falkens.
I chose a 0 offset to keep them as flush as I could. I like a more bulldog stance, but I dont know enough about suspension geometry to know what is good or bad so I kept things close to stock. FWIW, the service rep said that is the way he would have gone, too.
The wheel was harder - so many nice wheels. I ruled out machined and milled because I decided on a red/black theme. The Sledges were new, all black with black faux beadlock, and had a nice lip for an 18" wheel...and at the risk of sounding like a teenager who picks their football teams based on color, I thought the sledges had a spidey vibe. I did make sure these 18s would not rub against any part of the braking systen.
