Looked for old posts on my problem and really can’t say I found anything dedicated to it. Some kind of do, but go all over the place with other topics added.
Have a 2020 Limited, 5.7, 8 speed, 3:21, crew cab, and 4X4. 3,737 miles on odometer. New in March. Ever since new, when coming to a stop, the transmission “bumps” going from 2nd to 1st about 80% of the time. Sometimes it worse than other times. I’m speaking - noticeable “bump”. Told dealership about it not to long after purchasing and been back to dealership twice since. Second time had salesman and transmission guy ride and drive. Both said that they could feel ”THE BUMP” when coming to a stop - slow stop, like I drive. Transmission guy said he’d order valve body to install and call when in. Week later, got call and appointment made. Limited went in Monday @ 8:00 am and waited for two hour job to get done. After five hours, service guy came and said they wouldn’t be done today and would like to keep overnight. OKAY. Next day, got two calls telling me not done and working with higher ups to program computer. Not putting in valve in they said. Want to keep overnight again. OKAY. Third day they called at noon - done. All they did was programming for 2 1/2 days! Took it for test drive, still did the same “bump” when stopping. Nothing different. Maybe a little less. Transmission guy said he drove couple other 1500’s and they did same “bump”. Asked if I could drive them. Sure. Took 4 5.7 1500’s for test drives with a service person. Also had him drive mine. He did notice my “bump” when stopping. Three of the four test drive Rams never “bumped” once. One Ram did it twice, Once noticeably and once barely. I also test drove 2-3 Rams and none of them “bumped”. I definitely would have noticed because that’s one thing I look for when test driving - how transmission shifts. Talked to head service manager. He said nothing they could do anymore. Computer learns how you drive and my Ram has learned my driving. I asked why my test drive Rams didn’t “bump”? He said they probably eventually would. Say what!!! Said my driving habits of coming to a stop slowly caused the “bump”. (Insulting). He kept talking in circles with the ultimate ending of nothing to be done unless Chrysler says there’s a problem. (Realize this is my recollection and service manager would probably have a different recollection). I did get an 800 number to call a higher on the chain person from a more sympathetic service person. Service manager also mentioned “bump” could possibly work itself out after 10,000 miles. Ya right. Let’s put this guy off and hopefully he’ll just accept his poor shifting transmission. It’s been two days since I got the Ram back. Still ”bumps” shifting from 2 to 1. Annoying Annoying Annoying! I can’t except “They all do it”. They can’t. I’ve driven 8-9 Rams and only one did the “bump” as mentioned above. I didn’t get any paperwork of what work they did. Have to do that. I would like to hear from those of you who have noticed or have the “bump”. Can’t imagine I’m the only one. I’m a very unhappy camper. First Mopar I’ve ever owned. Thanks for reading this long post and looking forward to reading your responses.
