Truck does this while driving usually in mornings
IMG_1728.jpeg

It has happened to me at the tail end of a drive-through carwash, creeping along at 1 mph. If the truck is moving forward slightly ... no problem. If in neutral coasting and slight pause from moving forward... that is when it happens. Never at any speed though.

Interestingly, in his photo, the transmission does not show it is in any gear. Odd.

I wish I had a solution for you. There are some really, really, smart folks in this forum. I suspect someone will see your post soon and have an idea of how to help or give you some direction. From the mileage, I assume your Ram is no longer under warranty. If it is still covered, have it looked at; otherwise, the Ram Gurus in here may likely provide some assistance. Good luck.

Thank you 🙏

My first thing to usually do because these things are big computers now days, disconnect the battery for a good 30 minutes to reset the systems. Don't freak out if everything doesn't come back right away. It can take hours and sometimes overnight.

it's probably gonna be the RF hub behind the back seat..it probably got wet (guessing your rear window leaks a little water like all of ours do) and causes all sorts of weird electronic issues when they start failing...

I don't think the RF hub has much to do with the transmission.

In a Ram 1500, the transmission is controlled by a Transmission Control Unit (TCU), also known as a Transmission Control Module (TCM) or a Gearbox Control Unit (GCU). This TCU is an electronic control unit (ECU) that manages the automatic transmission's functions. For the 8-speed transmission, the TCU is integrated into the valve body.

I’d check that you have a good ground, check the battery, and also inspect your headlight and taillight housings for moisture. Moisture in the lights is known to cause electrical gremlins.

If your question is about the "Shift to P" message and not about your washer fluid indicator, my Ram has displayed this message exactly once just after I bought it: I was still drifting backwards from reversing and shifted to D. This is tolerated by many older automatic transmissions, but the Ram transmission programming apparently doesn't like it much.
Now I come to complete stop before turning the knob to change direction, and have not seen this message again.

Steve
