As a 35 year old dude with a 10 year old son and 16 year old daughter... I've noticed that metal music isn't appealing or "cool" to kids these days? What happened? My wife will listen to some shinedow, breaking benjamin, etc.. But will not tolerate screaming. Why do I feel so alone?

Man I don't think metalcore was ever really "cool" underoath/avenge sevenfold early stuff was ok but everything else is kinda... I would rather listen to depressing Morrisey than metalcore, it kind of like Avril lavigne with better hair. Purely my opinion but it all sounds like a cross between widowdusk and stand atlantic. I am not a gatekeeper or some purist I have most everything on my playlist from NWA to Holst. My most played though is Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Charged GBH, Manu Chao, A.N.I.M.A.L., Almafuerte, Bob Dylan, and Woody Gutherie (till I need to focus on a color map or inspection report then I have to calm down with Bowie or Elton John). I said all that to say this my son (18) has a wide selection of more contemporary metalcore bands on his play list, and that isnt really the kind of music my ex wife is into (he spends the weekends with me) and my little brother (2 years younger) only listens to jazz. I really think music is picked based on how it resonates with your soul, all those bands I listen to alot...I dont like every song maybe 50-65% of the music but there are just songs in there that can take you out or put you into any mood. Sorry about the rambling its bed time been up way to long.

Just gotta let you know, you have not been abandoned. I brought my 15 year old grandson up last week to hang out with us and his 16 year old cousin... We've been listening to BB and Avenged Sevenfold (those are literally his two favorite bands) as well as Ozzy, Alice in Chains, Static X, and some newer bands I've never even heard of for a week. He has even been playing some of their stuff on my guitar (and he's better than I ever was). It's actually been fun hearing songs I haven't heard in a while and discovering some new tunes as well, so keep the faith!

Oh BTW, my 5yo grandson's favorite band is Deftones, so there's still hope

80's hair bands are where it's at. Sadly, the younger generations are to into the hip hop and rap culture that is everywhere. Notice the "entertainment" they always have for Super Bowl halftime shows? It's all the woke crap. I stopped watching years ago.

I didn't really expect any replies at all. Good to know people like good music. Metalcore is just my favorite genre... as I lay dying, of mice and men, polaris, the plot in you, wage war, etc.. I also love anything from Alice in chains, stp, blind melon, rhcp, breaking benjamin, korn, static x, king 810, etc... Anything rock. I just don't understand the obsession with rap music. Anyway, i appreciate the feedback, guys. Ready to get my rebel back from its long trip to the dealer and blast music!

Nothing but old school metal here under one condition……..nothing later than 1992 unless it’s from a band that started before then. Early 70’s staring with Black Sabbath and any metal going into the late 80’s is by far the best.

I love metal but as I get older I have let go of my narrow minded thoughts. I now listen to a wide range of music what do the kids call it vibrating to? LOL I love the scream and growls with the breakdowns mid song etc. However some stuff like Brother Dege, dead south, blackberry smoke, uncle lucius, I think you get the picture hit my playlist more frequently.

I do love early Metallica, black sabbath, iron maiden, judas priest, motorhead, pantera, etc... Most people hate me for it, but I can say without an ounce of ********... I despise AC/DC!

Uncle luscious makes damn good music. I'd suggest band of heathens as well. They have a lot of good songs, but hurricane is their most popular.

I've seen gojira live twice and its unbelievable the amount of chemistry they have on stage and in their music in general. Favorite song is heaviest matter in the universe.
Igorrr too

Never heard of metalcore before this thread, have a couple AC/DC songs in my library. (Thunderstruck and something else). Might add Tombstone Town by somebody I don't recall (female, name escapes me, seems lots of metal fans like her) as it is not bad, thought the video is cheesy.

But I date to the time of Chicago and such, so noise for the sake of noise and screaming in general do not appeal to me.

I do not think metal is dead, but at a certain point metal has limited appeal. Anyway, this video is why Thunderstruck is in a playlist:

On edit: How to **** off your HOA.

On 2nd edit: I can't believe that requires an auto censor, bit I'm not backing it out. But I will watch it in the the future. Somebody must have ruined it for everyone.

I have seen some bands live but Mushroomhead and Clutch are my top 2. FFDP was a good show but mostly because my nephew wanted to go and see them with my brother, he didnt know I was a metal head because of my brother. My brother told him your uncle Insanity will be pissed if you don't ask him to go to. I bought 3 tickets right after he asked if I wanted to go. Now he is in his last couple years of collage and he has a Listening Local segment on the collages radio station. 88.3 WLFC 5-7pm EST on Monday and a slot on saturdays its an ohio station but can be streamed on a couple platforms a web sight I think there is a Spotify and faceballs you can tune in. He plays local bands no matter the genera hell he plays a guys song that I went to highschool with called Italian rugs its closer to rap IMO. It just has to be clean or edited yaknow PG13 is risky lol.

I respect your opinion. I love AC/DC but don’t consider them metal at all. Hard Rock is a better label. At their peak there was no better live concert. I saw them a lot in the 80’s-early 90’s.

Others you listed are all my favorites and I saw all of them live in their prime.

Well……except Black Sabbath……when I saw them they were well beyond their peak after Ozzy, RJD and Ian Gillan. Late 80’s were pretty lackluster for Sabbath. At one point Tony Iommi was the only original member. One thing for sure though there would be no metal music without Black Sabbath.

Again, surprised by the amount of people replying with such in depth posts... its awesome. I love talking music in general, despite the genre. Music has helped me get through my entire life all the way back to when I was 5 years old. The first song I actually remember hearing in my life was when I come around by green day. I was 5 years old and had a very troubled upbringing. The song made me feel comfortable in a time where that seemed impossible. Music has been a huge part of my life from that day on. I remember somehow I got my hands on a vhs recording of the baby got back video by sir mix a lot. That was my introduction to rap music and I still love that song to this day... and that tape probably got played more than it should have.
