First I apologize for asking a 4th gen question but my friends having suspension issues and this groups been helpful with my 5th gen. He has a 16 Laramie with air suspension. He works 1/4 mile from home so truck only has 34,000 miles on it. Lately when he goes on the highway and goes above 45 the suspension drops to an aerodynamic setting. As it lowers it will say service four wheel drive and then it lowers onto bump stops. Ya can hear compressor run trying to fill but it won’t till he slows down. Any suggestions? Dealer just wants to poke n hope and throw parts at it. Maybe this maybe that. Any help is greatly appreciated

If he wants to keep the air suspension, it will probably be an expensive repair. Or he can buy one of the air suspension delete kits and swap in standard springs and coils .

Yes we understand that. Trying to diagnose what the problem is.
The 4rh gen air suspension isn't very good. Especially in colder climates. There is a reason there is a delete kit available . Just my suggestion.

Airdelete.com. Get rid of the air ride. Nothing but problems. I have a 5th gen. Love the truck and didn’t want to keep spending money on air bags, sensors, compressors.

You’d likely have better luck posting this in a 4th gen forum. 5th gens have a redesigned system and for the most part 5th gens owners havn’t seen the same issues 4th gens owners have had. Our 2020 Limited has been flawless as far as air suspensions goes. And now that we’re in Florida I don’t see us having issues we might have eventually seen if we’d stayed in Eastern Washington/North Idaho. I doubt anyone here can tell you what the problem is with any certainty.

You’re probably right that dealerships will just throw parts at it until something sticks, and even then I wouldn’t trust it to last. Your buddy would be better off finding an independent shop that specializes in air suspensions if he doesn’t want to convert to steel springs.
