I’ve read up on a previous thread and it seems the Barricade HD is the more popular choice.
I like it and it has the best price. I am however torn between the it and the Rough Country HD at 150 bucks more but also about 30 lbs heavier. The RC also comes with better hardware apparently.
What do you guys think? Advice and opinions please.

Gotta bring this to the top again. I backed into a Trax at 1mph. Scratched his plastic front bumper, but folded and dented my bumper and dented box in 2 spots. So much for Fed 5mph bumpers.

I am looking for a little stiffer tube or plate bumper that won't fold against a plastic car, but doesn't weigh 150lbs, cutting into legal payload. Seen Barricade, RC, and Ranch Hand (lite); any other suggestions? I think ADD is too expensive, so $500-800 and simple. I'll keep the hitch for a shackle, don't need lights, etc.

I’m leaning towards the Barricade bumper. Looks a little more aggressive with the additional cutouts. However, the RC bumper is heavier duty and has the additional rear lighting. I suppose you could always add the lighting for the barricade and still be under the cost of the RC.

I have the RC and like it, went back and forth between it and the Barricade but the RC looks cleaner to me, the lights work well, and I found a comparable price. The RC does have the sensor holes, wished it didn't but so far not an issue, looks fine with the plugs

Have you seen the Vice Designs bumper? That's what I'm going with. Eventually I'll stop being a baby and send it.

A little above your wanted price but...

The cheaper bumpers use thinner fishes steel so aren't as sturdy. Also, our rear bumpers aren't designed to withstand a lot of force.

I have the Wicked Bumpers rear bumper. Probably out of your $500-600 budget, but it's better designed than the $500-$600 ones. He normally has bumper step cutouts in the bumper, But I opted not to have those, as I have the Mopar bed step, and I think it's a cleaner look without the cutouts in the corners PXL_20231109_223802174~2.jpg PXL_20231109_223809591~2.jpg PXL_20231109_223753490~2.jpg PXL_20231109_223819941.jpg PXL_20231109_223830500.jpg

My truck was recently rear ended and Im rebuilding the rear to be much stronger. The factory bumper is tin foil and plastic, I can literally bend it with my bare hands. I went with the RC because its thicker steel than the others I looked at and 1 piece. The mounts themselves are 1/4” thick. Its a very solid unit. Im also using a curt 15005 class 5 hitch to beef up the frame and the bumper mounting. Its much stronger and thicker plates than the oem hitch. The oem hitch bumper brackets would be the next weak point with a better bumper, they are like 1/8” at the most. My oem hitch was also destroyed in the collision. The curt bumper mounting plates and frame plates are solid 1/4” steel and run much deeper into the frame rails and have twice as many mounting points. Its adding like 75+ lbs. to the rear but thats the cost of making it much stronger and using 1/4” steel plates everywhere. Ill let you know how it turns out.

I think this is exactly what happened. I was first stopped at a red light. Jeep GC stopped behind me. Teen in a silverado doing 50 went straight into the jeep and then the jeep went into me. Luckly I looked in my rearview and saw it coming and had a 3 second head start to put the hemi to the floor and get rolling to avoid a dead stop hit. Both other cars were totaled, mine is 8.5k damage. I have good insurance co and they let me use the parts I wanted to rebuild. Also ordered a awe exhaust system to fix that 😁 So at least im getting some upgrades from a crappy situation.

And my wife wonders why I'm always looking back when slowing down! Good save!

And a blessing in disguise too 😁

The upgrades from your crappy situation also likely cost the insurance co' less than OEM, so they probably say sure for that reason. I like the idea of strength, but I got etorque already cutting into payload, that I wish I never ordered, so I probably am looking for a slimmer, simpler design. I will definitely keep the hitch in mind tho. Of note, mine and yours seem to get into the box with the ears first, which I see that RC has also, not really interested in that aspect. I'm still thinking tapered rectangle prerunner style myself, but the RC looks good at that thickness too, good luck.

Yep. The shop is happy too because I'm acquiring the parts faster than they can get OEM parts. Everybody wins! Im also going to upgrade the rear springs to bilstein dual rate 1” lift springs to account for the extra weight. I have the 6’4” box and crew cab so Im already rolling heavy compared to the shorter wheelbase trucks.

Update on my slight accident. Plastic rear bumper couldn't be pulled back into any reasonable usage, so my body guy called for a price - $900 for the plastic bumper (out of pocket, at fault). Uh, no. So I'm looking in earnest now.

I ordered the Wolfstorm. Will check the welds and repaint as needed. Probably Rustoleum flat black and then bed liner.
