Aftermarket Bed Light Options?

It's pretty straightforward. Red wire to hot wire, yellow wire to ground, good to go. I wired mine to the trailer 12V always hot wire and then picked a bolt on the frame somewhere I think. My switch is stuck to the wall of the bed behind the driver tail light so I wouldn't accidentally bump it. Wires run through a hole that's right there down behind the tail light, then under the truck. Here's a video of a guy installing them, but I haven't watched it. Just googled "Nilight bed strip kit install".

Thanks !

Thanks all. I think I'm good for now. I ended up using a pair of simple plastic toggle bolts, and drilling a couple 9/64 holes in the two ends of the OEM trim piece, and screwing them in. We'll see how this goes this summer; I have a long trip coming up and if they fall out, I'll try something else.

Lighting is good:

I like the type of lights you have. You have a link to where you got them

I liked the idea llando88 has for a magnetic light but my sprayed in liner wouldn't allow me to use the magnetic lights so I screwed in a piece of sheet metal to my fold out storage box and has worked out great for my needs.

If anyone is interested in an OEM install check out these threads. Another option to the kit mentioned previously is to buy the OEM lights and the harnesses used when the lights are installed by the factory. I think this route is a little cheaper and you don't have to pull the wire all the way to the engine compartment. The two harness you purchase replace two harnesses, one left and one right side, that go from under the bed to the tail lights.

I really must be an idiot, but alas.

I'm using the Nilight - TR-05 kit from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KXR799K

I need a bit of help on the wiring, I guess, since nothing is working.

This is the image from Amazon that the kit shows, but I guess they've updated it. I ran the red hot wire to a red extension to reach the trailer plug. I spliced the red coming out of the trailer plug so I have the kit red extension and the two spliced pieces running back into a connector.

Instead of the yellow wire below, they've given me a red/black wire. My assumption was that this was the ground, but maybe that's incorrect. I have the black/red wire from the button tied into an extension black/red wire onto a bolt to act as the ground.

Can't remember what the color was, but if you're looking at the truck from the bumper, you need the wire running into pin 4 if you want to be able to turn the lights on whenever. You don't need to use the ground wire if you have a bolt connected to a non-painted surface. I have the same kit, no issues.

Thank you. I really appreciate it.

I cut the wire in pin 4 (red) in "half" and have the three wires running into one tie in if that makes sense. Original red wire I cut in pin 4, remaining pin 4 wire that runs down into the tape somewhere into the frame, and then I have the Nilight red running in to tie up all those ends. I must be missing something or have wired something incorrectly.

Should I be running the Nilight red directly into pin 4 instead of the original pin 4 wire?

The wire is fine. I'd check power at the pin as it should be hot all the time. If you don't have power there check where you spliced it. If you have power there then it's something wrong with either your splicing or your ground. If no power there you have to start chasing back to the front of the truck for pinched harnesses, blown fuses, etc.

Thanks again! Everything was correctly wired, but the ground wasn't "grounding" was the issue. All resolved!
