Hey i just bought another Ram yesterday. 2022 Bighorn. Used with 6500. I was lucky i guess to find one the color i liked with the night addition.

Anyway it has aftermarket air bags on the back and they do have air in them. Know nothing about running airbags other than they are when towing or lot of weight in the bed?

Just uncertain why there is air in them when not towing or bed is empty.

Thanks.

Do you know what kind of airbags you have? Or if you don’t post a pic here! Most aftermarket airbags require a minimum air pressure at all times to keep the bag from being pinched or deforming. As an example my Airlift bags need a minimum of 5psi at all times.

Once you know what kind of airbags you have I’d recommend looking up what their recommend minimum and maximum pressures are so they’ll stay in good shape.

The dealer didn’t seem to know anything about them so I have to study to see if I see any words written down anywhere but as it is now there’s just a fitting on the back of the bumper. I could check the pressure which I will but definitely more than five psi

The psi is 13.5. The space between the fender and the tires is about 8 1/2” inches on the back on each side. the front little over 6”

I called a local shop that does lift kits and stuff and they said yes airbags are different but nominal is 10 to 15 psi when no load. 3k load about 35-40 psi. Over 3k pounds 80 pounds
Can you post a pic of the airbags?

Wow you must be very similar with airbags to identify which ones those are. Thank you.
I do own them, but they are sitting in a box unused. Lol

There are only a couple of options for in coil bags.

Ok nice you’ve got the airlifts. I’ve had my airlift 1000HD’s for about a year, I love them!
Just keep in mind the max psi on those bags is 50psi
There’s some people on here who say you have to air up the bags before putting any load on the truck but someone on here contacted airlift and informed us that I was not necessary to do it that way.

Airlift1000HDs, I just installed mine this past weekend. The star nut on the schrader valve is installed in the wrong position it should be on the backside behind the plastic bumper, between the plastic and the nut on the backside. 1

Also for those that had the same question as me. I just spoke to a tech with airlift. His recommendation was to measure the height to the rear wheel fender with 5psi in the bags. Then increase air to 35 psi. Then hook up the WDH, then adjust the air as required to get close to that original measurement.

What I do is back under the hitch (trailer or camper) and then air the bags up until the hitch is almost off the ground. Then lower the hitch and adjust from there.

What kind of hitch do you use? I’m assuming you have the coupler set up slightly above the ball height?
