Has anyone added a tailgate release switch to the inside of the bed? I don't have the fob that releases the tailgate and I'm adding a canopy camper to the bed.
Figure out where the wires for this switch go and hook up a bed mounted switch in parallel.
I unfortunately do not have that button.
That's what I'm thinking. I guess the canopy camper I'm getting has an L bracket preventing the shell door to opening first. I have to get in there today and see if wiring a switch would be easy. It may be a module that plugs directly into the tailgate switch.find the wire that feeds power to the tailgate release actuator (when you press the release on tailgate), run a 12v switch to it.
but beware, the wiring from tailgate to your BCM exist, so feeding 12v to tailgate may cause additional issues.
just open the tailgate manually by opening the hatch of your camper, reach out, and open the tailgate from outside. not that hard i did it for 50 days straight when I overland all the way to Alaska and Arctic OCean and ba
Most trucks don't have that button eitherFigure out where the wires for this switch go and hook up a bed mounted switch in parallel.

you could just buy a key fob with tailgate release and get it programmed to the truck. That's what I did on mine. $50 fob off eBay and was $100 to get it programmed by a locksmithHas anyone added a tailgate release switch to the inside of the bed? No button in truck, and neither of my factory dobs had the option.Did you have on either of your original fobs or do you have the button in the truck?
so you're saying no button in truck and no button on the fob but getting a new key fob with the button and get it programed to the truck and it will work?No button in truck, and neither of my factory dobs had the option.
that is a weird design. what camper? That's what I'm thinking. I guess the canopy camper I'm getting has an L bracket preventing the shell door to opening first. I have to get in there today and see if wiring a switch would be easy. It may be a module that plugs directly into the tailgate switch.
Yes, for most trucks there are some that didn't have the correct latch/wiring, but they are lower trim levels, if you have a Bighorn or higher with at least the level 1 package, it should workso you're saying no button in truck and no button on the fob but getting a new key fob with the button and get it programed to the truck and it will work?
wow that opened new possibilities for me lol

Dirtbox Overland. It seems they have a option with a lip that runs behind the tailgate for security. Or you can get it without that lip.that is a weird design. what camper?
Yes, it should work.Just looking for clarity here on what HSKR said. I have a Rebel 12 with level 2 package. There is no tailgate release button inside my truck and no tailgate release button on my fob. So, if I get a fob with the tailgate button and get it programmed to my truck, I can release my tailgate with the remote?
