Yes do the math. I attached cost and list for the compressor. Add anything else needed, pag oil, 1234yf, shop supplies and so on. You are at almost $800. Another $700 in labor(its a 4 hour job with diag, evac, replace and recharge)..... not hard.

Dealers do NOT sell parts from manufacturer at a 25% margin, that isn't smart business for anyone in the auto industry.

Do you now understand it? The price is reasonable, maybe slightly high because we do not know labor rates or what the actual failure is.
Thanks, I appreciate the detailed response.

Hey I am in California, it appears that my clutch on the AC compressor burnt out. Shops in the Bay Area provided an estimate of $1,400 - $1,800, before tax, depending on the actual part. The cost included discharge refrigerant (1234yf), new AC compressor, labor and recharge refrigerant. A couple shops said this was about a 2hr job. The MOPAR part is out of stock / back order. After further research I found that my AC compressor is a 7SAS17C Style and that UAC has it for $200. The refrigerant 1234yf is about $80 for 16oz can. I'm lucky enough to have a buddy that's a mechanic with all the tools. I going to save some money and try tackling this on my own. I hope it works out. Has any one used parts from UAC?
