I've never owned a Ram before so I'm new, in general, to FCA's infotainment systems. I'll be honest, the look of the 12" screen is amazing and I could imagine it gets a lot of "wows" when seen. However, the idea of needing to go into the system to do basic functions (I'm assuming that is correct, I may be wrong...) while driving, has annoyed the crap out of me in other vehicles. Not to mention, having heard some horror stories from other manufacturers (Volvo comes to mind) with similar, "all in" info systems shutting down, locking up, restarting, etc. I don't want that grief and again, I assume getting the 8.4" system would bypass that?

I guess in general, I was hoping to hear from people that have both, to share their experiences thus far? If it matters, I am looking at the 1500 Sport, and after building it with the Level 2 option group, and then adding the 8.4" screen, it is about $1000 or so cheaper than if I had added the Leather & Sound group and kept the 12" screen. The drawback being that by removing the 12" option, it appears I am also giving up the HK stereo, right?

Thanks everyone :)

FWIW, I had the same concerns. I like being able to feel a knob when I'm driving (insert pun as needed), and not look at a screen, to adjust something.

Having come from Ford's MyTouch, I am soured on screens to control a vehicle. I bought the 8.4 and love it.

Love my 8.4 with Nav. Never an issue with locking up in over two years. The Nav I don’t use too much due to Google Maps/Waze being superior but hey the shiny bezel makes up for it!
The 12 does look cool but have heard too many stories… and yes knobs are “old school” 🤣

The only differences between 8.4 and 12 when it comes to knobs and buttons…..

The 12 does not have a dedicated button for heated seats or heated wheel.

That’s it

That’s the difference

Fan speed, temp, vent location, defrost front/rear, ac/max ac (and more I’m forgetting) all have a dedicated button - but they can also be adjusted on screen

Again. Heated seat and wheel, on screen only. Everything else has a real button.

A lot of people don’t know, never actually sat next to one, and assume it’s screen only. It’s not.
