Hi guys, Dealer says that as of today, Level 2 equipment group needs to be purchased with etorque engine. Those who have it, is it worth the extra $1200? thanks

There's been a LOT of past discussion on this. Some of us really wanted eTorque, for various reasons; some are ambivalent about it, and don't see much benefit; some were dead-set against it, as they perceived it to be a reliability gamble.

Here are just a few results of a simple "eTorque" search:

Thanks for all the info! I do find it odd that currently you have to purchase etorque option if you want the level 2 package.

Is your dealer entering your order as a sold order or as a stock order? There are restrictions on stock orders for dealers, but shouldn't be any for a sold order. (From what I understand)

good question... Ill find out this evening when I go there. Ill report back

I have a limited so it came standard with etorque. I probably wouldn't have purchased it with it if I had the option but I'm glad I have it. The fact that it can shut off at traffic lights and save fuel is huge. The start stop is so smooth you don't notice it, unlike my girlfriends 2019 Cherokee.

I had to point out to my friend that the truck actually shut off and restarted. He didn't even notice it.

Put me in the camp of not wanting it. I despise start/stop tech (at least on every vehicle I've ever driven that has it).
Perhaps the RAM's is so smooth that I wouldn't care. Will have to drive one when it's time to get a new one. Sounds like I will not have a choice anyway...

Cheers,

Just drove the etorque this evening. The system didn't bother me but it's not something I'd pay for if I didn't have to. Dealer said he's going to call rep tomorrow .

You wouldn’t care. It’s that smooth. But I can see a ‘hybridized’ future where you’ll miss these eTorque trucks...”at least they still had a real V8!”

Cheers,

My ex has a Mercedes GLC300. It has Start/Stop and I hate it. Before that, she had a Mercedes GLA250. That had Start/Stop and I hated it. Before that, she had a '15 Jeep Cherokee with Start/Stop. I hated that one's, too. She also hates it in all of them. Her (and my, in her cars) habit is to start the car, hit the button to turn off Start/Stop, then start driving.

The eTorque Start/Stop in my truck does not bother me at all. Not even a little bit.

Overall, I'm glad I have eTorque.

That's awesome. Makes me feel better about my next RAM, which will inevitably have this.

Had it, ordered replacement truck without it. Nuff said.

That video with the RAM product specialist was great. I had no idea how sophisticated the e-torque system is on this truck. RAM should move some of the powertrain engineers over to the HVAC department ;)

I can honestly say that I hardly notice it anymore except on hot days. It is when the compressor stops turning at a stop light that the air conditioning temp gets warmer that I notice it.

LOL... No doubt!!!

Comor me on the mixed feelings

On the one hand in traffic I loved it, Until summer kicked in (Live in Houston), and I rather burn fuel sitting and keep my AC going than not, so for the next 5-6 months its going to be deactivated everytime I get in, But when it's nice out I don't mind it. :ROFLMAO::rolleyes:and it is a buttery smooth transition

Lucky you! I wanted the eTorque and the pano roof -- my dealer tried for 3 weeks .. had to settle for the standard Hemi and pano roof.

I have it on mine and would get it again. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was that it came with a smaller gas tank at 23 vice the normal 26 gal tank. Not sure if they still come that way so I would recommend the larger tank if they still do. A lot of people shy away from their experience with vehicles with the stop/start feature because they do suck just like my wife’s Grand Cherokee. But etorque is 100% different than a standard start/stop system. I am currently driving a loaner wrangler with the 4 cylinder turbo with etorque since my truck has been in the shop 2 months(nothing engine/etorque related) and the etorque is a great feature on it as well. For those hot days if the truck is still cooling down it wont auto stop until the vehicle has cooled down. Still, if it has cooled down and you want to avoid it shutting off for the short stops you can easily disable with a button.
