Thinking about installing aftermarket 360 camera system. 2023 Big Horn 1500. Standard mirrors. How hard to get them apart enough to install the side cameras and route the wiring?

.

There are countless threads with great suggestions on this site on this topic in the past 5 years or so

I wrote a how to on installing the factory surround view cameras. It's pinned in the modification section.

I read your post. My question was just how hard to install cameras in mirrors which you skipped. Everything seems pretty straightfoward except for that. Any input there? I'm thinking about the birds eye system with a separate screen.

It wasn't skipped. Did you read the part about replacing the entire mirror? In the post, others have just bought cameras and installed them in their mirrors, but you will need used mirrors. The reason is because the bracket that holds the mirror isn't available to purchase. You can do what I others did and buy junkyard mirrors and take the harness, bracket and camera out and put in yours. You will need to drill a hole for it in the mirror housing. More information in the thread.

The systems I see for sale today have cameras to be installed in existing mirrors. Have to drill a hole in the bottom and then route the wiring into the door. These systems are quite inexpensive, They can provide replacement tailgate handles even. All I need is how to get the mirror apart.

I understand what you are saying. Maybe delete my mention of a 360 system. Just how to get the mirror apart.

There are videos on YT on it. The hardest and most delicate part is removing the mirror glass. There are several ways to do it. One is too use a body suction cup to pull it off. Others say to tilt the mirror down all they way and use a screwdriver to pry on the back of it. Broke my first one that way. Suction cup worked better for me.

I would add be aware of the temperature for the mirror glass removal.

Good note. Yes, the warmer the better. Or use a heat gun to gently raise the temp.
