305/55-20 or 295/60-20... Decisions Decisions

Such a hard decision... I can't decide what size tire (or what tire) I want to run. My truck is a Granite metallic crew cab Big Horn with the ORP, and I picked up a set of the polished /granite 20" Laramie wheels to put on it after I do the Readylift 2" kit with arms. I just can't decide if I want the shorter/wider 305/55 or if I want the taller/narrower 295/60......I know it's not that much difference, but I'm picky like that.

Vote for 295/60. Wide enough and a bit taller to get a good look. Also, have Nitto Ridge Grapplers and they are awesome. Great look and quiet in 275/60/20.

Well, I did it... Ordered the 2" Readylift with arms, and a set of 295/60-20 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires. Finally, my ORP will actually look like a 4wd....lol

My truck came with the Falken wildpeak at3w (Off Road Package). They seem to be a very good snow tire, and all around all terrain, very quiet, and reasonably priced. Got all 4 shipped to me for 1150. Not that I expect to get that many, but they have a 55,000 mile treadwear warranty. They should last me a good while.

It will be a while until I buy tires, but will probably go 295/60s, unless I do a gear swap. Then 35s will be coming.

I hear ya about the gear. I have the 3.92's, so I'm good. The 295/60 just seems like a great size. Especially since I'm using some stock Laramie wheels. To keep the tires mostly tucked under the fenders so it doesn't throw crap all over the truck. With the factory 1" lift, plus the Readylift 2", I think it'll be just the right look.

I just wish they made a wider 34" tire. Something 12"-12.5" wide for a 20" wheel. Kind of crazy they make that for an 18" wheel but not 20" wheels.

I know right, that’s sort of what’s keeping me looking to add 18” wheels and tires ( aftermarket ) to my Laramie..

Yeah. Gotta go 33x12.50 or 35x12.50. No middle ground. 33s just aren't tall enough for me. I love the look of 35s, but overlooked the 3.21 gears when I bought. 295/60s will probably be what I end up with. It will be a bit though. Bought 275/65s as soon as I got the truck. The 32s just weren't cutting it for me and wasn't sure what would and wouldn't fit yet.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the 295/60 is 1/4” shy of 12” wide @ 11.77”. I agree 12.5” looks really good, but it’s not a terrible difference.

@HotStuff one thing to keep in mind is your speedometer. It will be off 2.5mph @40 and 5mph @80. The only way to fix it atm is an aftermarket part like the Hypertech.

Ya, my truck came with the ugly 18" wheels with the 32" Wildpeak's. The wheels kill the truck. Not to mention the horrible rake these trucks have. Even with the ORP my truck looks like a 2wd. But still better than a Ford or Chevy. In my opinion.

I don't care about the speedo being off. I daily a Grand Cherokee with 4" and 32's on it. Speedo is off about 5. And my 03 Cummins Dually is on 34x12 Nitto Terra's. Although I did correct it's speedo when I installed the programmer.... Thanks tho!

Very true, and why I will be going with that tire in the future, likely Nitto Ridge Graps.

Do it! I am glad I went with the 295/60

Cmoar - do you have more pics you can post? Love the look of your truck. Ordering my Limited and I’d like to do the same size wheel/tire but id like to do it with just a level, no ORG. Opinion on how that would look?

Thank you. As long as you know you will have to take the heat gun to the wheel well on the back side of the tire, I think it would look really nice. I know the -18 offset isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I like the added lip on the wheel that it gives. Let me know if there is a specific angle you’re after.

Let us know how those tires do. Assuming you got the LT version, which don't have the silica compound, which makes me wonder about wet road performance.
