3.0 HO as an OPTION

Keep in mind that Stellantis killed the Hemi and Hellcat for a reason. They were getting murdered on their average fleet efficiency. Even though the Hurricane is more fuel efficient, it’s still not “good enough”. So I’m sure they’re limiting how many trucks they sell with the HO engines.
I have 2500 miles on my limited and the fuel milage with the Ho is nothing to write home about barely getting the rated amount on the sticker so far. I really think they overshot the gearing in the rear end. probably should have went with 3:55s for a nicer balance between torque and MPG. it also doesn't help when truck wont even use 8th gear until 64 miles an hour with the 3:92s.

Agreed on the gearing. I loved it when I saw that the SO came with the 3.55’s. It’s the best balance with the 8 speed. HO should have that by default too IMO. I’d only want the 3.92 if I was planning to put 35” or larger tires on the truck.

If it won't shift into 8th gear until 64mph with the 3.92, it would be worse with 3.55

yeah I agree with the current transmission calibration that would be correct. but with the proper calibration for 3:55s I bet it would be better. i know when I had my 8 speed in my silverado and 3:55 rears it was a nice balance and it shifted into 8th at about 54 Mph and ran about 1700 RPM and got 19 MPG to 21. basically same setup as my ram is as far as tire size and type etc.

Wow. I might be misremembering but I'm pretty sure I've seen my truck in eight gear at 35-40mph. I'll have to look next time I'm driving it. I guess it's the low end torque of the diesel?

I get that the HO is the "New Hotness" but for the love of all things holy. What happened to offering a performance upgrade for the people that choose to do it.
Ford for example. If I want to buy an F150 XLT...I can CHOOSE a 2.7 Eco, a 3.5 Eco, 3.5 Power and 5.0.
Now I get it, they drop the 5.7 Hemi, but they don't even try and revise or update the v8 option for people that still want one? Fine. I get it, the performance of the 3.0 is better...whatever, I'll deal with it.
BUT...you offer a Laramie GT and a Rebel GT, but you get zero performance upgrade for a performance oriented truck. I mean really?

You couldn't have given the GT pkg the CHOICE of the 3.0 or the 3.0 HO?

It's like Ram took all the great decisions they made with the 2018-19 release of the DT and threw them all out the window and said...F' It.

It's no wonder sales are tanking.
They announced today the new CEO that came back is bringing the 5.7 Hemi back as an option in 2026 Ram 1500. But It never said if the 5.7 will be upgraded, but I would guess they will upgrade it like Ford did theirs and GM.

I'm thinking Ram will offer it as an option at some point if they are smart. Took GM a couple years to start offering the 6.2 on their mid grade RST.
You would think Ram would have offered the 6.6 Scat motor rather than just have no offer after the 5,7 was outed. But rumor at MOPAR world was the CEO who was fired hated Hemi.

I have the 392 in my new Tungsten, and it was shifting in to 8th gear at about 53 to 55 mph today just like my 5.7 did @ about 1800 RPM where the I-6 was about 2300 RPM. I'm almost sure I seen it in 8th gear lower than that on level highway today as well......

Did you do an engine swap?

I think Ramit392 is talking about the gearing he has not the engine.

Ahh yeah wasn't even thinking gear ratio on an engine thread. That, and most people actually use decimal points when talking about hearing. 3.92

Yeah I was curious on how he could have done an engine swap on this Tungsten lol I was like no way.. It's too soon for someone to be able to do this. Then thought 392 gears.. 💡

That would be cool if you could get a Scat Pack 392 in a 1500. Have never understood why not since the 6.2 Hellcat was in the TRX.

Yes it would. Take my money.

The Story of RAM: First year of something new, limit the offerings and options. Year 2 and later: Expand the offerings and options.

'25 is the first year of the HO. I would totally expect it to be available as an option in more trim levels in later years.

For the first year, they probably had a limited amount of HO motors they could install in trucks. It probably makes business sense to only offer them in the Limited and some other high-end trim levels when they are in short supply.

The Hellcats got nixed because of what the charge the Gov. would have forced them to add on to the cars. The 330 stopped because the demand fell off terrible for the greatest car ever being the 300. The HO 3.0 does not do ant better MPG than my 2019 Ram hemi did. But this 3.0 will flat out leave my old 5.7 Hemi far behind.
