2023 rear window/third brake light leak?

Hello all. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2023 Ram Bighorn. One concern I have is the notorious third brake light leak. From what I can tell, the part number for the third brake light changed sometime during 2021/2022. Does anyone know if the 22s and 23s are having the leak problem? Once I get my Ram, should I preemptively replace the third brake light with the Recon brake light? Thanks!

I wouldn't. I had a minor leak running down the passenger side rear window. The dealer said it's a known issue and replaced my 3rd brake light. It didn't fix a thing as the leak was the window seal. I've seen more water leaks from the window than the brake light. I fixed mine myself with flowable caulk.

It's called Permatex. I'll have to locate a pic. It's not as thick when applying so it runs into the channel nicely and seals the pin holes that might be there from the factory seal.

No problems on my 23' yet. Took delivery March 1st and have driven it 1800 miles. Garage kept.

When you say the passenger window seal, are you talking about the door window, or the passenger side of the rear window?

It's it visible inside the cab, does it happen when washing, or only in heavy rains at speed?

If you want to see if the rear window is leaking, set the hose on the roof and let the water flow over sections of glass at a time. That will help isolate which side is leaking, if it is. The dealership just replaced my brake light assembly and gave it back. I got home, and let the water flow over the back corner of the cab, and saw a drip running down the glass. I knew it was the glass and sealed it up. I've had no issues since.

This was supposedly fixed after 22. I just bought a 2024 1500 Big Horn. I was under the impression it had been fixed when I bought it. So, fingers crossed.

Funny my CHMSL has never leaked. I have had it out myself 2 or 3 times and reinstalled. Once to put in white LASFIT LED bed lights. Once to put in red LASFIT LED stop light. Once when I was troubleshooting what turned out to be RF module failure. Was eliminating possibility of what some have experienced as their FOBs not working correctly with the LEDs in there. Have never had that problem either. It has the original reused seemingly cheap foam gasket. Mine just seals in there correctly I guess. Lucky me.
