Hey all, I did a little research a while back but need a refresher. My wife has directed me to look into a cover as we have a road trip coming up so I need to move somewhat quickly. I have the 2022 1500 5'7" with multifuction tailgate. In the past I remember reading about aftermarket L-brackets or something. So my question starts there, if I change those does it give me more options for covers? Like, can I use any cover that would normally not work with the MFT? I also see that BAKflip has the G2 hard folding version that works with the MFT.

Second question, is hard vs. soft. This particular trip I'd just like to throw some luggage and things in the back and keep it protected from the elements. The truck is garaged when I'm home but parked in a somewhat sketch area when I'm at work so I probably wouldn't keep anything in the bed regardless.

I don't really want something that is going to take up a ton of space like a rolling version. I do like to use the bed for things and it's already small enough.

Can y'all point me in a direction?

We have the Bakflip and it works great. Much more secure than a soft roll up or tri-fold cover. I would highly recommend that cover if they make one that works with the MFT on a standard bed (non rambox bed).

I have the soft folding cover that came on our limited and love it. If I ever have to replace it I would go a hard one but this works great for now.

Note: this link is for a longbed

This is the one I have, A little fiddly at first to set it up, but after that it works great.

I have the Bakflip 4 panel on my 23 Laramie with the MFT. Super easy install, no leaks in carwash or driving rain. Bought it from realtruck.com- get a salesman on phone, they will deal if your'e ready to buy. Good luck..

I have the MFT and I would strongly suggest you get the aftermarket braces. There is a MFT bed cover thread that's 50 pages long that goes through a lot of this information. Do not take recommendations on what covers people are using unless you are sure they also have an MFT. Even with the brackets not all bed covers will work correctly and some will need to have the rails notched or modified to clear the aftermarket brackets. Some bed cover companies will not accept returns if you order a cover that won't work with the MFT.

I have the BAK revolver bed cover and I'm very happy with it. It rolls up, and out of the bed unlike the Retrax that has a huge box inside the bed.
Secondly the diameter of the Revolver roll is very small compared to the other hard cover roll up options. It's nice to be able to have it fully rolled up and still see out of the back window.
In order to get the BAK revolver bed cover to fit tightly against the bed you will have to notch the rails. This was a relatively simply task, I did it with a hack saw and just cut the section of the rail far enough to clear the bracket and broke it off with pliers. The whole install took me a few hours by myself and went smoothly.

I suspect all of the bed covers that don't specifically say MFT compatible may require some sort of minor modification to get them to work.

Here is the link to the 50 page MFT covers thread.

Here is a link to a helpful thread about the brackets.

I have a Bak Revolver X4S that I had installed on my ‘21 w/o MFT. Was a great cover, no leaks at all, rolled up good and tight. Took it off when I got my ‘24, still sitting in garage. Guess I will order the right-on brackets and take a chance.

Forgot to mention, this cover does NOT require any sort of mods to the truck at all.

I also have the X4S, Once you get the brackets installed if you hold the rails up to the bed you will see where you have to remove the material.

It's a great cover, I've been very happy with mine.
