2020 Ram Limited Multi Function Tailgate Won’t Open

At least it’s fixed. That’s good. Just amazing how much this stuff can cost to fix. Used to be a clip broke and the linkage fell apart. Replace clip for a buck or two. Sorry showing my age.

there was nothing wrong with the old manual handle. they still work on 50 year old trucks. oh i get it they don't intend these truck's to last 50 years.

I would agree on the manual handle. I never use the opener for the tailgate on the remote or in the cab because of my truck cap. Even if I didn’t have the topper, I don’t think I would use the auto tailgate feature. With all the liquid salt brine they use and it getting into everything on your vehicle, the electronic tailgate is not a good reliable feature and not needed in my opinion. There should be a manual latch or some backup way to open the tailgate in the event of an electrical failure.

I use a dielectric grease on a lot of the connectors/connections for exactly that reason. I also use a silicone lube on all the latches/strikers. I also agree that a manual back-up isn't something that should be a option, it should be mandatory.

View attachment 195271View attachment 195272I finally was able to pick up my truck this morning. The truck sat out all night in -8 degree temperatures. I tried the latch, key fob and button inside and they all opened the tailgate. I’m posting the repair summary in an attachment to help other members with similar issues. I’ll keep, you posted if any other issues arise. They mention two metal interior tailgate panels that I apparently ripped off and broke. I removed the plastic panels held on by the plastic push rivets but nothing was broken nor did I “rip” them off as they stated. Not sure what that’s about.
I think I'm facing the same issue - long story short, I'm replacing my bed with a MFT one, but get these errors when connecting to my truck, so am suspecting I need a new Tailgate module. I had an auto-electrician open the tailgate for me and the centre-top actuator is likely bad, but no problems with the others.

Unsure if this means 3 of the actuators need replacing, or the module is having issues...
