Did an oil analysis on my 2020 Ecodiesel. 20,000kms
Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40
Any input about the results would be much appreciated, as I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Lol

Are you saying that you went 20k km on this oil that was tested, or 20k km on the truck in total?

If on the truck in total, how many miles since the first oil change?

I’m not an expert on oil analysis, but without a baseline to compare with, there isn’t anything to be concerned about.

These tests can help more if you do them over time. For example, if iron stays at that level for a few oil changes, then goes up on one, you might suspect that there is an odd wear issue.

I would be excited to see the results when you check them at the next oil change.

10k seems short for an oil change interval. Do you do a lot of towing? Was an oil change recommended by the computer?

I send my oil samples to Blackstone; they include a column with average numbers for similar vehicles/engines so you can make sense of it. Ultimately though, change over time of your own numbers may be more interesting.

10,000km does seem short; I usually follow the indicator on the dash and change somewhere between 9,000 and 10,000 miles. This was confirmed by my oil change sample analysis.

Don’t get caught up in trying to predict how an engine is wearing based on a UOA, it’s really not that simple and takes a lot of training and experience to do that accurately. In this case it’s showing 47 parts per million of iron, but what does that really tell you? Is it from true wear, and if so, where did it come from? The timing chain, crankshaft, cylinders? Or is it from corrosion or a chemical reaction between the oil and metal surfaces? Inexpensive UOAs like the ones from Blackstone are limited by the equipment they use to only “seeing”particles in a certain size range, I’ve seen 1-5 microns and 3-5 microns from people who are very experienced with these tests so larger and smaller particles go undetected.

New engines tend to show higher metals until they’re broken in, and it’s really difficult to know when “break in” is over.

UOAs can be very useful in checking the oil for contaminants such as fuel, water, antifreeze and silicon (dirt). The lab can also provide the TBN (total base number) which helps determine if the oil still has some service life left or if it’s no longer able to neutralize acids in the oil and needs to be changed. The TBN is helpful in determining what the proper OCI is for a particular vehicle and driving conditions.

Oh ok. Thank you for the input.
I do them every 10,000kms because I figured since I’m saving some money performing them myself, I can afford to do them more often. Never had a diesel before, just want to take extra good care of it so it lasts.

I have a 2014 ecodiesel long horn with 140000 miles, change oil every 6000 miles. that's the best thing I have done. No problems. I'm waitng on my new 2021 longhorn 10th anniversary edition. Are these motor burning oil? Oil consumption. I was at my dealer and i know the techs in the back. I saw him put 2 quarts of oil in a rebel 2020 ecodiesel! did not why it was using oil? I wonder if any one is having this problem?

I added 1 litre of oil in my 2020 diesel Rebel at 6000km, it was just below the low mark on the did stick, it moved the level just below the full mark and hasn’t moved from there, now have near 13000km.

Same..I had to add oil in the first 5,000km or so. Since then I haven't had to add any. That's pretty normal in my experience. 18,000km now and just checked the other day and it's still perfect.

My old 6.4 SRT was the same.
