Hey guys, does anyone know the strength of our tailgates? I can't seem to find any info but I need to put my bike in the bed next week and I'm trying to determine if I will need to take the tailgate off. Thanks in advance!!
My last truck (Ford F-250) was billed as 250 lbs for the tailgate. I'm not sure if that's an industry standard for full-size trucks or not but they all have 2 cables and 2 mounting points.
I'm not sure what my 1500 is "rated" for but I've always gone with the 250 lbs as a general rule. I don't normal
I'm sure it can probably handle more but I've never had a problem using that rule of thumb.
Ram advertises that the MFT can easily handle 2000 lbs when down. Since it attaches the exact same way and uses the same cables as the standard tailgate, I'd make the assumption that the standard tailgate can also easily handle 2000 lbs.
