I recently purchased the OEM trailer brake control module and installed it myself in my 2019 5th gen Ram 1500. I need to update the software in the truck for it to recognize the new hardware. I do not currently have any of the required hardware to be able to perform these software updates. As I understand it, I will need to purchase the AlphaOBD software license, a wireless OBD scanner (such as an OBDLink MX+) and some form of a Security Gateway Bypass device. Whether this is a separate wiring harness, or a separate bypass module that I connect under the dash. Does anyone have any experience with what works best for this Security Bypass module in the truck? Or what is the best device to use for bypassing the trucks Security Gateway Module.
I understand that these Security Bypass Modules are new in these trucks to prevent wireless hacking, but they also prevent OBD scanners from communicating with the trucks ECM to make the necessary software updates I'm looking to perform. I'm on the fence about doing these software updates myself or taking it down to the dealership for them to update the software for me. Dealer quoted me $200 CAD (1 hour) to perform this. I wouldn't mind spending the money on the hardware to make the updates myself, and having the ability to perform future updates myself, should I change the tire size on my truck, for example. I certainly do not want to bugger anything up related to the ECM. any help on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought the vLinker MC+, works great for everything.

Here is the bypass cable.

Then you need AlfaOBD software for $50. and you all set. Can use it over and over if you want to change anything.

Thank you for your reply, Manny!
So to confirm, all I have to do is unplug the two (2) cables (12 pin and 8 pin connectors) from the trucks Security Gateway Module, plug them into this Chrysler bypass cable you recommended, then plug the vLinker MC+ into the other end of the Chrysler cable (OBD connection), and I'm good to go on communicating with the trucks ECM and updating the software accordingly? Of course I will need to get the AlphaOBD software. But that's it?

That's it. AlfaOBD for Android or the windows version for a Lap Top or JScan for the iPhone.

If you are an iPhone user, you will need Jscan, not alfaObd. alfaObd is only for android or windows if you want to use a laptop.

Don't forget, the JScan is for one truck (tied to your VIN). when you change trucks, you will need to get a new license, where as AlfaOBD is for ever. even when you change trucks it will work.

Hello, I have purchased this along with the module. as i think the steps for programming the trailer brake controller in alpha obd are enabling the following with the cable attached
1. Integrated Trailer Brake Module (ITBM/HWM)
2. Trailer Tow Present
3. Trailer Selected CSM Present
4. Trailer Name CSM Present
5. Trailer Type CSM Present
but I do not know what is the setting for the trailer steering. I found the following
1. TRSCM Tri-State Comfort Climate Module.
if someone can confirm or if i need other settings made

understood, and Thank you. Also so another question. I am changing my screen from an 8.4 into a 12 from a 2023 model and this was with it. My question is are my setting stored in the module or another place. do I need to reprogram items I installed at the dealer before like the power running boards.
