New guy here. So my truck has brown sludge that is in my cooling system which seems to be a failed oil cooler/heater exchange that is mounted above oil filter housing from what i have researched. I have checked dipstick which did not seem to have coolant on it, however did not drain oil from pan. I am worried that when i discovered the issue i had a ticking noise before i shut truck off. I did not get any warning lights or high temp readings, once i shut truck off all the sludge started leaking from overflow tank. anyone with this issue? should i worry about ticking or is it due to oil being sucked into cooling system? Thanks in advance!

I had a similar experience except about the ticking noise. I had a big ole pile of coolant on the passenger front side and it was due to overflows from the coolant opening. Checked my oil dipstick and no oil at all. Seems like I had all the oil going into the coolant.

After multiple threads and my mechanic coming it seems like there’s a fault at the oil cooler where the oil is going into the coolant. Apparently it’s a thing for 2019 ram which is what I have. I also am at 94k miles. Just happened yesterday 12.20.

Fix would be to replace the oil cooler and flush the whole system to take out all the contaminanted coolant/oil mix. And top off with coolant and oil at their separate respective levels.

Hopefully the ticking is from very low oil, I did check dipstick after two days of it sitting and it looked clean. like your issue mine also dumped out of over flow tank which is on the passenger side. So instead of trying to clean out all the oil I decided to buy new radiator, water pump, oil cooler/ heat exchanger, upper and lower hoses. I’ll update after I install parts.
