2019 Lonestar Classic - Bad Paint Job in the Truck Bed - dealer says it is intentional

Help, I haven't signed on the dotted line yet and may not want to. The paint in the bed of the truck is bubbled, as if an amateur painted it and there was too much excess and/or over spray in certain areas. The dealer tells me that it is intentional so that a future spray in bed liner can adhere to the ripples in the paint; like roughing the paint in prep for a coat. Has anyone ever heard this? I may take it to a paint and body shop prior to signing. Perhaps an omen to go with a Toyota.
Truck is a brand new 2019 Lonestar Classic Silver Edition, 4x4, crew cab.

Sounds like BS to me. However, the difference is probably purely aesthetic for now. Later on you might run into some paint issues, but if you get a bed liner you probably won’t. Tell them to throw in a free bedliner to cover up the ugly paint, since that’s what it’s there for hahaha.

It's hogwash! In fact, all blistered paint and overspray must be removed for a spray in bedliner to properly adhere! I would tell your dealer a free, color-matched Line-X and the deal proceeds. Otherwise, you're moving on.

Now that it is light outside I can really notice the level of imperfection and downright sloppy workmanship. Is this the Friday at 5 PM special? Was quality control asleep? How do you miss this? I would never paint (I like to do handyman stuff) to this low level of quality: I've painted lawn furniture to a higher degree of quality.

That's BS, go find another truck. The dealer owed me a drop in liner (my choice). I had to wait 3 weeks before it was available. The paint in my bed looked like the rest of the paint on my truck. If it were me, I wouldn't do ANY business with that dealership based on him lying to you. It almost looks like there is rust in your last picture on the weld.

which should have been picked up in Q/C.
if I was you i'd get a free bed liner for it and have it noted on the paperwork as its prob covered under the warranty

Is the rest of the truck fine? If so, I wouldn't worry about what's in the bed, assuming you're going to get a bedliner. One thing is for sure though, I'd be skeptical about anything else that dealer says!

Wow, that is EXACTLY what the body shop in Austin, TX (Leander) said, that the undercoat (base coat) was probably the culprit and that the FCA/Ram robot was probably misaligned aka. buzzed and one foot out the door on Friday at 5PM per union rules. Either way QC was a JOKE.

Used to work in a body shop. Complete BS. Never heard of such nonsense. My truck had a minor paint issue too. Robot missed applying paint to a very small spot on the drivers doorsill. Dealer took care of it.

Run! Run as far as you can from that dealer. If they are willing to feed you BS about the bed paint then they will give you the run around down the line. I’d stay away if I were you.

Update, I took the brand new, 2019 truck with 53 miles to a high quality (and very expensive) body shop, as well as, a top of the line truck outfitter (Line-X). The outfitter rep. was astonished when he saw the "orange peel" paint, when I gave him the Ram dealer's explanation he immediately commented "no, can't believe he expected you to believe that" and asked me to wait so he could show it to his boss; both were take aback by the apparent lack of QC at Ram, they then referred me to a paint expert at a body shop. The body shop paint expert was also in disbelief and called over his specialist who measured the paint thickness (in mils) with a MilPro type electronic gauge; the paint mil thickness was almost double on the areas with the orange peel. The specialist also said the dealership was full of it, that he had never seen one come off the line like that, but that he did not think there was any rust, instead, he figured that when applying the undercoat/base coat in the bed, the paint robot was probably using a broken (plugged) paint nozzle and/or was not calibrated correctly. The General Manager at the dealership offered a free spray-in bed liner (Xtreme Liner) about $375 (with lifetime warranty) and the finance manager offered a Mopar warranty of 8 yr. / 100,000 mi. w/ $100 ded. for a "discounted rate" of $2,285, he also commented that the Mopar Maximum Care warranty cost was $2,185; IMHO "cost" is probably more like $1,800. I accepted the deal but told them that I would not "sign"/fund/close until AFTER the bed-liner is installed and the truck is detailed, it should be ready tomorrow and I'll post pictures IF it goes through. Really want to believe that Ram and US manufacturing (auto workers) are ready to build quality, bad *** trucks again; fingers crossed.

Oh man, I specifically asked and negotiated for the Mopar Vehicle Protection Plan, Maximum Care Plan, but the dealer's finance guy snuck in paperwork for a warranty underwritten by the "Preferred Protection Plan" insurance company based out of Austin, TX (horrible reviews). Both Mopar and Preferred have the same plan name "Maximum Plan" for Preferred and "Maximum Care" for the Mopar so it was real easy for the finance guy to just point to the plan name as proof that it was the Mopar Protection Plan, he said the paperwork referred to it differently but that it was the Mopar warranty. I kept pointing at the Mopar Vehicle Protection Plan brochure and reaffirmed twice that it was the plan I wanted, he confirmed yes every time. Luckily I can cancel the plan for a full refund which I am doing day after Christmas. I am going to flame these guys on reviews once this is all over, caveat emptor is Latin for buyer beware but maybe it is time to regulate and license sales reps in Texas. I will also look into TXDOT as well.
