The 5.3 is certainly the thriftiest gas truck option out there, with better results than the turbo 4's and 6's, and at least on par with the NA V6's.
I think that's why they keep it around... cuz there isn't much else good to say about it.
Gotta say I am surprised.... I ran the non-OE DuraTracs for a while.
No complaints off road, they were animals.
But it was like wearing ski boots in a marathon, and noisy as heck after 20k.
Glad they are working well for you!
Starting to sound like a broken record on tire threads, but I absolutely love those Yokohama GO15's for the street-oriented AT tire mission. I ran 5 sets, and they are VERY polished - and by the way, no slouch off road; never had any issues on any hunting trails or ruts, even did ok in mud...
I pretty much confirmed this in real life myself.
Went up to 34.3” tires, but in doing so
- reduced weight at each tire by 2 lbs
- only increased width 20mm (275 to 295)
- went from aggressive to mild AT tread pattern (DuraTrac to Revo3)
- made no other suspension changes (minimal ride height...
Agreed on weight, which is why I found those options and went the the Revo3. Actually lost 2 lbs/tire vs. smaller stock size Duratracs (55 lbs vs 57 lbs).
However stock non-rebel tires should be closer to 40lbs, so still a good weight gain there.
Let us know your perception on ride difference once you get it back together.
Also do you have a shot of the other/underside of the airbag? Im curious about the anti surface between strut perch and airbag.
I think its a) for test drive purposes (wow, that car really sounded great!) and 2) for bad-noise masking as a method that is cheaper for the MFR to meploy vs. a true noise cancelation strategy.
Average consumer does not like direct injection clatter, turbo whistle, or the rattle trap sound of...
Its going to be just like the EcoBoost.... tuned to be nearly silent on the mainstream models, and tuned to at least sound like something on the specialty models (Raptor/RHO).
They know it is never going to sound like a V8, so no need to bother.
The in-cabin is the question. I turned off the...
I suspect phobia like this gives them fear of tanking sales.
Plus fleet managers eye repair costs - which is inevitably higher with turbos.
Though again I must make the distinction between reliability and repairability.
However a Powerbost Super Duty (with HD cooling stack) would be a job...
Car and Driver has provided THE most reliable acceleration and technical data for decades.
However like dyno results, the data is not relevant or comparable to your results with a stopwatch or tuner - not to any other results than their own. It’s an index.
A break torque launch from still...
Payload and towing numbers are good to understand.
But more important factors in my mind are:
The terrain & elevation you are towing (Florida vs. Colorado?)
Distance (down to the lake or cross country)
The size and shape of the trailer (an RV is basically a parachute, and the longer it is, the...
Short tripping is the biggest factor on engine longevity, just after timely oil changes.
Assuming you don't start out with a dud, of course.
Anything beyond concern for that is just a feel-good measure.
We've chatted about c-cans in other threads, so all I'll say here is the notion that...
Wonder if either Hurricane can support e85, or how long until someone makes high pressure fuel pumps and injectors for them?
Because at that point, the Dino’s will need to follow suit to retain their spot in the pecking order.
Sort of funny that in a thread about which axle makes a better truck, it turns out regardless of which axle you choose, you're still in the slowest, least efficient half ton on the market (now that Titan is dead), and which is battling Tundra for lowest payload & towing ratings.
The above is...
Not sure the jump in size is enough for a major impact to your mpg or performance. Now if you added a 6" lift at the same time, sure mpg will tank.
That said, if your primary concern is weight, look at the Bridgestone Dueler Revo3 or Firestone Destination A/T in any given size to find the...
Literally any ford dealership will do this, don’t worry about their FUD. The warranty is through Roush.
Then there is theFord Performance supercharger package which is based around a Whipple supercharger and has an actual Ford manufacturer’s warranty so long as it’s installed by a ford dealer.
Jeep is trying to spin up a new dedicated luxury brand. You’ll notice it doesn’t say Jeep anywhere on a Wagoneer itself nor its marketing materials.
Anyway, like most luxury brands the dealer experience is a huge consideration.
Especially at dealers that must run “mixed”, like a...
