It's an emissions thing. Revving it up and then dropping the throttle quickly causes all sorts of nastiness (thinking NOx, maybe?) If it slows down gradually, that puff of whatever-the-hell-it-is is eliminated.

It's a flashing red light in the cluster that lets you know the alarm system is armed. (The alarm system will work without it, but it's nice to have the indicator that it's active.)

It's actually easy to do while driving. Just punch the "Gear limit" buttons on the bottom right of the wheel. Keep pushing until you are in "8", but not "D8" This limits the highest gear you can select. Putting it in "8" leaves all the automatic shifting as normal, but locks out MDS.

When you activate the alarm, you also have to turn on the security indicator light. (I forget what it's called.) It's been a while since I did mine, but I believe that's right. I also activated my trailer brake controller, after I bought and installed the kit.

It really amazes me. I am on the side of the buyer but, legally, I believe the dealer doesn't have to do squat. With that said, I can't imagine that the dealer wouldn't want to pay for a $2-300 repair (probably their cost, maximum) in order to keep in the good graces of a long time customer. -...
