I've wondered about this. I can turn mine off with HP Tuners. But since a MDS failure is usually the lifter roller locking up, I don't see how disabling MDS will prevent that.
I'm running Mobil 1 oil, I figure that will do more to keep the issue at bay then disabling MDS.
When I did mine the plug in adapters from the vendor were wired reversed. I had to de pin each one and reverse the leads. If you get the speakers wired backwards they will be out of phase and cancellation will not work. In fact they might boost the noise.
My 2020 did have the resonator. After I put my Corsa system on I went back later and ordered Corsa's resonator delete pipe. Removing the resonator made little to no difference at all. Probably why the factory stopped using them.
I discovered mine was related to the park brake. If I only lightly put my foot on the brake when starting, it didn't make the pop noise. I turned the auto park brake off in Uconnect.
Ordered and Unlocked one from HP Tuners and shelved the original.
FYI when you disconnet the battery. Your Uconnect may(will) come up stupid (options missing). Don't panic, just give it a few hours to figure everything back out.
