I've noticed this too. While power may not be sent to the front all the time, the front axle is engaged, which might be putting some extra labor on the drive line.
I wish that were the case. I've had two ECU/TCM flashes to newer software versions, and the problem went away entirely upon getting the new driveshaft.. for a few hundred miles. What is happening is the rear slip yoke is binding up for whatever reason, maybe lack of lubrication, and then it...
Mine did this at 5500 miles. Dealer replaced driveshaft, problem returned 500 miles later. Took in for a second time for same problem, dealer ordered a kit to access the rear slip yoke. Found it devoid of grease, greased and sealed back up with a new boot. Problem is mostly resolved, but you...
Alright, mine is back from being repaired for the second time.
The dealer ordered a boot kit, as well as a special tool to crimp the boot that covers the rear slip yoke. The procedure involved removing the old boot to access the slip yoke, and to grease said slip yoke.
The bump is 90% gone I...
If you tires have odd wear and make a squeal when turned hard, it could be your alignment. Poor alignment can make your tires squeal on sharp turns on those smoother parking garage surfaces in my experience.
Mine makes noise on turns, and will have a bit of a binding sensation on really tight ones. Dealer says normal. When the wheels “slip” such as being at different speeds while in a turn, the transfer case thinks it needs to send power to both axles.
Alright, heard back from my dealer today. After two days of testing by the shop foreman and calls with STAR, they believe it's the drive shaft once again (this was replaced in June for the same issue, for those who don't want to go read all my posts). The foreman inspected my differential...
Mine is back at the dealer as of today. They called me to say the foreman is working on it again like last time, since he's familiar with the history of it doing this. He was going to check backlash in the rear diff last I heard, and if that was good, to open another STAR case. I'm in a...
Thanks Mark. My dealer is pretty good, and are just as wanting this resolved as I am. If they run into any trouble, I'll be sure to reach out to you for some extra help.
I hope that solves it. My driveshaft got replaced as well, and the bump came back in less than 500 miles. Actually taking it back in this coming Monday now that work has slowed down enough.
Happens to me anytime the FOB is near or covered by a cell phone. Did the same thing on my Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Went with 5.11 pants and shorts that have cell phone pockets closer to your rear hips, problem totally solved. :)
I have not. It doesn't sound like anything bad, just a bit of deceleration whine. At that speed, with how fast a 3.92:1 gear is turning, it sounds pretty normal.
Those of you with new driveshafts - how long has it been since they replaced it, and has it completely stopped? My driveshaft got replaced as well, and the bump was back 400 miles later.
It was the case for me. The first few stops were fine, but it came back. Overall shifting improved, especially multi-gear kickdowns, so it was still worth having.
Hey Stuart, I live in Fairfax, and used these guys a couple of times with my Jeep after getting some curb rash: http://aplusdetailing.com/
They were fair on the price, and got the job done quickly for me.
The bad news is, you'll have to keep up with waxing them as it will be bare aluminum...
7 Seconds?? If I put it in 4Auto and give it full boot off the line, my crew cab with 3.92's will shuffle to 60 in about 5.9 seconds. I even posted a video many months ago.
