My username is a hint. In my 41st year with the ISP, will be retiring in February of next year when I turn 65, mandatory retirement age. Prior to that served as a Security Police Officer in the US Air Force from 1974-1978.
These experienced RAM owners are incorrect if they're saying that the anti drain back valves (ADBV) in all Mopar filters don't work as designed. It makes no sense that they would send out hundreds of thousand or even millions of oil filters a year on new vehicles or as part of oil changes...

I've had my RAM for three months and just noticed this while cleaning it, can't believe I haven't spotted it until now. The trim at the top of the rear drivers side door is smooth while the trim on the rest of that door and all of the other doors is textured. I contacted the service department...
Yep the first number is the winter rating. A 5WXX oil has to pass the cold cranking simulator (CCS) test at -30C, which is -22F. A 5W oil is good for winter starts in pretty much the whole country.
That really sounds frustrating, I really hope they figure out for you. I’ve only got 1300 miles on mine so far and it’s completely quiet. I’ve started it remotely standing next to it and so far haven’t heard the first tick. The current manual “recommends” 5W-20 that meets MS-6395 and displays...
You're probably right about why some feel they need a thicker oil, and like I said there could be times it would be wise to go up a grade if you're trying to solve a problem. Redline makes very, very good oil no question about it. I looked at their site and for the top of the line 5W-30 it show...
Yeah I agree, how we feel about our maintenance choices is important. I wax my cars several times a year, even though I know they have clearcoat on them, but I "feel" like it helps protect the paint.
I'm not sure what theory you're talkng about, but all of the oil producers post the certifications, ratings and basic info about their products. The published viscosity for most 5W-30 oils is between 10 and 11 cSt, and for most XW-20 oils it's between 8 and 9 cSt, that's at 212F (100C). That's...
5W-30 is only around 2 cSt thicker that XW-20 at operating temperature so it is also "watery" thin. In fact the, SN+/GF-5 Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 was shown to have a kinetic viscosity at 212F of 9.8 cSt on the Pennzoil website, the minimum cSt to be rated as a 30 grade is 9.3 cSt so it was just...
Valvoline Daily Protection “conventional” is actually a synthetic blend, pretty much all conventional oil has some synthetic base stock to help meet the previous SN+/GF-5 and now the new SP/GF-6 standards. Valvoline Daily Protection meets MS-6395 so it should work just fine.
I agree with...
This is a recent article that I don't believe has been posted yet, sorry if it's a repeat. A pretty detailed look at the Ram 1500 suspension.

The FRAM Ultra is rated at 99% efficiency for particles 20 microns or larger which is about as good as it gets, but a whole lot of smaller particles are going to get through the filter and continue to circulate in the oil which makes it and all other oil filters basically just rock catchers. The...
