I'd question the oil change technician rather than the housing. I've changed the oil on a few 3.6 V6 over the years and housing has never been an issue. The O ring in the filter housing completes the seal, no need to crank on it as some like to do with oil filters
I just dropped my spare and you don't need the tool from under the seat, a 12 point 13mm socket will fit the square in the mechanism. Then you can use a power tool to expedite the process
